Wanda's Story

MY LIFE After my second marriage ended in 1971, I married again in 1973 and moved to Florida, residing in the Jacksonville area for 31 years. The year 1998 was an "everyone leaves the nest" year. My last child left for college in 1998, and after the demise of a 25-year marriage, I found myself divorced and beginning a new (and exciting) chapter of my life as a single woman. Over the past years, my life has been blessed to meet some very interesting people from around the world, from Europe to Africa. My children are all grown and married, and their professions are: teacher, preacher and a cop. And I have four marvelous grandchildren, three terrific boys and three precious girls. Since my divorce, I've penned one novel, one non-fiction work and short stories galore, but am best known for my romantic poetry and poetic prose. In 2000, I had the joy of recording some of my poetry to CD. Fortunately, I was able to talk to our beloved Miss Hamilton before her death, and shared a couple of my works with her. I now reside just across the Florida/Georgia border in a very small town, but quite honestly, wish I were back in Jacksonville. I always wanted to be a writer or interior designer when I grew up. My family and friends thought both a great idea, and as it turns out, they were correct. Although I never became a designer, my creative juices flowed in other areas. My father was/is my hero. Although he's been gone over nearly forty years, I still look up to his ideals. My mother is 87, and we talked regularly. We talk about varied topics and joke. The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Barb...Expand for more
ara Bare, because she was my very first friend. (Update: We saw each other twice earlier this year.) If I won $100 million, I'd give 10% of it to the church, then spend the rest on my children, my friends and of course, moi. I've reached my 66th year, but almost didn't make it in 2014. I had congestive heart failure and two bouts of pneumonia. I almost died twice in a three week period in February. When I was 12, I thought people over the age of fifty, for the most part, only sat in rocking chairs. I was so completely naive. My best friends would tell you I'm very serious, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as light-hearted. I share my home with me, myself and I, which I find lonely at times, especially during the holidays. The strangest job I've ever had was working in a box factory in Delaware. My first job was at Dr. Carson Blevins' office, where I got paid $50 a week to be his receptionist. What I remember most about it is the time I had to fill in for his assistant. It was hot, and there was no a/c. The patient was in for a full mouth extraction. He had serious body odor. The combination of heat and body odor bothered me, but I held in there until the blood starting flowing. I passed out cold. lol. Currently, I am working on my second novel which I cannot seem to finish.. I've been fortunate enough to win several writing awards and am a member of Cambridge Who's Who. I never accomplished anything in high school to win a trophy, but I was a member of Beta Club and did pen the Class of 66 class poem. :-) I stay busy with my writing, web site, writing groups, et cetera.

HAPPY 45TH, SON! YOUR MOM IS SO VERY PROUD OF YOU!
As I watched movies and TV shows where top hats were worn, I always wondered how they kept them as a normal men's hat box would not work. Finally, on a cold winter day in a Jacksonville antique shop I discovered the answer.
As my ancestral home, the William M. Herrell home in Mitchell County, NC appeared in 2010. Teresa, this is the best photo I have of the front door remains. Sigh!
Too "two" funny!
