Ward's Story
School
I grew up in the San Fernando Valley. I moved there when I was 5 and there were still orange groves down the street from my house. I remember jackrabbits going through the yards before we built the fences.
I went to Elementry school at Haskell Ave in Granada Hills, then Porter Jr High (1963-66) then to Granada Hills High from Sept 66 to Feb 67. I was in the Marching Band and got to march in the Rose Parade in 1967. I moved to Newhall in Feb 1967 and started at Hart High. We moved to Newhall because the State of California bought our house for the Simi Valley Freeway (CA118). I did not want to go to Newhall because I thought it was a small hick town. Now looking back, It was the best time I had. I got to play football and run track, something that I could never do at Granada. I was able to hike in the hills around my house (it is now the 14 freeway, and just generally have a good time.
Some of my best memories are from this time.

est time in my Geology class with Winston Wutkee and will always remember being a part of the first trip to Death Valley. I was also able to play on COC's first Football team. It was also during this time that I learned to ski. Remember the all lift tickets at Mammoth being $12 bucks. But then they were only $4 bucks at Wrightwood, and $6 at Snow Summit in Big Bear.
1971 I went to SFVSC and joined the Sigma Chi Fraternity. It was with 6 of these Fraternity brothers that I took my first road trip to Iowa. One of the guy's family lived there and they had a cabin in Minnisota where we went and spent a week in the Boundry waters area along the Canadian Border. What a blast that was. September of 1972, I went into the Air Force which pretty much ended my Youth.
Do you remember when Magic Mountain first opened?
Farrell's Ice Cream Parlors?
Had a chance to work at both of these palaces. What a gas. After I met my wife to be, I found out she worked at Disney World when it first opened. She had some good stories too about some of the afterhour parties.
