G. Wayne's Story
This is me, Wayne Davis, just before I was shipped off to Okinawa Japan, (age 19) to the 3rd Marine Division. My time at Roosevelt High School was a long nightmare. Could not wait and see the world. Felt like a prison sentence to serve, not going to school to get an education. Had some friends while I did my time at RHS and that made the journey easier. In my Senior Year and certain life events, I dropped out of High School and volunteered to enlisted the USMC.
The staff at RHS and some of my fellow students viewed me as plain white trash and not a person. just another dumb hilly-billies. While at RHS got beat up more times than I care to remember. Targeted by folks bigger and strong than me while they...Expand for more
were groups, sadly these folks were members of the RHS sports teams. For the most part, some folks made my life a living hell there, and it was daily.
Walley Gates, as I remember his name came to my rescue more than once when I was getting beat-up while at school. He was a decent person and also a humble person. Even when it was reported to the School Principal and the staff at RHS and by him, I was the one that got in trouble and told to correct my misconduct/behavior, plus it did not matter. It was just kids having harmless fun.
I can not dismiss the fact I attended RHS, Just glad it over and I did make some life-long friends from there. Not many but a few. One was a girl named Ida, plus Bill,
