Wayne's Story
I retired in December 2006, after 37 years in education. Now enjoying the good life with Frank, my domestic partner of 35 years, in Palm Springs.
My free time now is being spent working on trying to secure passage of an amendment to the United States Constitution on Presidential Elections. I have written an amendment that will change our electorial system to a direct election of our President, and will do away with the Electoral College and delegate selection to pick our President. I have opened a website that will allow visitors, to read my proposal, and find out about my efforts to secure its approval.
Classmates will not let me post the website address here in its actual form. I have joined a discussion group (Elections & Leaders) on this site where the web address can be found in its actual form.
How I got to this point:
After graduating from HHS in 1966, I
earned my Bachelor's Degree from Western Michigan University in 1970. Also, I studied at Oxford University in England during the summer of 1969. Later I would go on to earn my Master's Degree in Education from Wayne State University,
then studied teaching methods and
computers at the University of Michigan. GO BLUE!
Immediately after graduating from Western, I started substitute teaching in the Hamtramck Public Schools while I continued to work at Wilson Shoes in Hamtramck where I had started during my junior year at HHS
I started contracted teaching in 1978 for the Detroit Public Schools (Wilson Middle School & Pelham Middle School), where I remained until moving...Expand for more
to California in 1985.
Continued my studies at the University of California Riverside, UC San Bernardino, and San Diego State University.
Most of my career has been spent
teaching History and Mathematics in Middle Schools and High Schools in Michigan and California, with my final position at Lakeside Middle School in Perris CA. I also spent time working for the State of California Department of Education on textbook adoption and technology for the classroom.
I have been fortunate during my career to have been acknowledged by by peers on several occasions for the work I have done. These have included "Teacher of the Year" (8 times) and "District Teacher of the Year (2 times) while working for three different districts in two states. Also spent numerous years as a mentor teacher, and worked to write guidelines for the Peer Assistance Program (PAR) which replaced the mentor system as a vehicle to offer assistance to teachers in need. Served as the first Chairman of the PAR Committee. The greatest reward however, has been the contacts from former students. They always want to let me know that they still can spell my name, and that I made a difference in their lives. That's what it was all about!
Moved to Palm Springs in 1991, and enjoy living in the warmth and sunshine of the desert. Still a big fan of U of M, the Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers, and Lions. Of course, still a big fan of Hillary. I still believe she was the best person to be President from all the candidates, and I know she will do a great job as Secretary of State.
