Wayne's Story

I 'graduated' TLHS at the end of the 1st semester of our senior year and went to work as a cook at Shakey's Pizza. Hey... Paid the gas for my motorcycle and pocket money. I returned for commencement in June and it was kinda weird. Felt like I didn't know anyone and it was only a couple of months. Never did go to college/university other than a few college level courses I needed to achieve specific goals. Career? After Shakey's, I went to work at Fireman's Fund Insurance off Lucas Valley Road. Started as a mail clerk, then got into computer operations and eventually became a computer programmer. Later worked for Southern Pacific Railroad, Crown Zellerbach & James River Paper Companies. Almost moved to Richmond, VA, but I missed California. Got into mainframe systems performance and worked for Boole & Babbage in Sunnyvale until acquired by BMC Software out of Houston TX in 2000. I'm still with BMC today. I am currently an Advisory Software Consultant, which means that I've been around so long I get a fancy title instead of money. Actually, I'm the technical guy who works with software salesmen to explain products (they lie and I get to make it work), help customers with evaluations and provide training to the people who use it. I travel a lot for business, and am a frequent speaker at conferences and customer briefings. Personal? Married since '77 to Irma Cambri (Redwood class of '71). We have three grown children, a son and two daughters, and now one grandson. Picture above is ...Expand for more
of Irma and my girls. Beautiful aren't they? We've been living in Petaluma since just before we got married. We purchased an old farmhouse on 2.5 acres and remodeling eventually turned into pretty much rebuilding it in stages. Between work and vacation, I've been fortunate to travel all over the US, to Canada & Mexico, and to several countries in South America & Europe, as well as Australia. Being to so many different places really makes you recognize and appreciate what a special place we have in the SF Bay Area. I am also a Past Exalted Ruler of the local Elks Lodge and enjoy volunteering for such projects as Casa Grande High School Project Graduation. I enjoy fishing (once caught a 72lb King Salmon on the Kenai River), hiking, skiing, woodworking and stone masonry, but I haven't had much time for those activities lately. These days my leisure time is more into gardening. I never did get the hang of working on internal combustion engines. I am looking forward to retiring in the relatively near future and doing something low tech like becoming a fulltime stone mason, wheelwright or shepherd. Either that or I'll use my speaking voice to record Books-on-Tape. I might even go back to college and finally earn an actual degree. The idea of becoming a frat-boy kind of appeals to me. BTW - Irma says that if I hadn't met her, I would still be living like a hermit, holed up in my old apartment in the Canal District of San Rafael, drinking beer and reading SciFi. She's right, of course.
