Wayne's Story
Recently, when I was returning from a weekend trip to Manhattan Beach with my girlfriend, I decided to take a side trip through Lynwood. This was the first time I have visited the town since the early 70's and even though it has changed, my adventure brought back many fond memories. Lincoln, Hosler, Lynwood High, Fosters Freeze after school, Century Bowl, Friday Night Football and dances, drive-in movies, the Hermosa Strand, Road Tramps Car Club, the Junior Play, and Great Looking Girls! Even though I moved to South Gate my senior year, I will always consider Lynwood as my Alma Mater.
After graduation, I went to JC for about 5 weeks and then dropped out because at that time I was more interested in "getting out on my own" and being independent. After being called to take my physical for the draft, I joined with some buddies the Navy Reserves in Huntington Park rather than take any chances with the draft. ng in the Navy, I returned to college and received a Bachelor's degree in Ornamental Horticulture with an emphasis in Landscaping and Agriculture Education. Upon graduation I moved to Palm Desert and was selected to develop and start the Agriculture Program at Indio High. I then started a landscape company and in 1979 moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to become part of an established landscape firm. I lived in Petaluma for 32 years, which was a great town to raise my two daughters. In 2008 I retired and sold my interest in the company to spend more time with my daughters and their families in Grass Valley and enjoy the winters in Palm Desert. In 2012 I decided to make the desert my primary residence. I enjoy the many golf opportunities the desert has to offer, attending concerts, dancing, walks in the early morning, and bicycling. During the summer I travel a lot to escape the summer heat.
Since joining the Class of 64 site I have made contact with several old classmates and look forward to hearing from others.
