Wayne's Story
Life
Howdy. I have seen much and done much since we graduated in 71. My first marriage produced three kids, Seth (b.'78), Sarah (b. '81), and Tyler (b.'83). They all graduated from what is now PCM for those of you in the hinterlands not knowing that Prairie City and Monroe consolidated in the 90's. I lived around Iowa City for about 5 years in the 70's then moved back to Monroe and lived there until last August (04). I now live in Vinton and remarried.
I have been self-employed the last 15 years, the first 10 mostly carpentry with the last few years mostly environmental and engineering (surveying). I am now moving into real estate investment and housing inspection. I also train lead paint inspectors and workers.
Sports is still an interest, I have season tickets for the Iowa Hawkeye football team (a thorn for you on the dark side,ie;Cyclone fans) Call me up if you want to go canoeing, I love it. I am also into genealogy and have made six trips to Ireland with one trip purely for research. I will someday find where my ancestors lived.
I spent a year at Simpson College in Indianola tying out for the football team. I even made a tackle towards the end of a varsity game against William Penn, woo hoo. The cost of private school sent me packing to the University of Iowa where I took a bachelor's degree in education in 1976...Expand for more
. I have worked at a large seed corn company (Cargill/ PAG in Monroe), self-employed selling artwork, working for a construction company for a few years, then a few years for an environmental consulting firm('90-93), and spending the time since then self-employed doing mostly carpentry work but still doing environmental/engineering/housing inspections.
I still follow sports, Hawkeyes, Cubs, Bears, and have added other interests such as Des Moines Playhouse, Des Moines Metro Opera, Simpson College Madrigal, archeological lab and field work, canoeing the Upper Iowa River and Boundary Waters, and an occassional visit to the symphony. I have recently particpated in the Michigan Tech University Wolf/Moose research expedition on Isle Royale on Lake Superior. We volunteers camp out with the wolves for a week searching and collecting moose and wolf bones for DNA research at the University.
I have six grandkids and no pets. Since moving to Vinton, I have met Denny Richardson who was the senior quarterback at Monroe when I was the 8th grade quarterback. He lives in Cedar Rapids and his wife taught in grade school along with my wife. He says he remembers my red hair.
I hope that one of our class reunions would include all of our surviving classmates. Rusty, Brent, Chuck and Janet would probably be thrilled to attend now if they only could.
