Life
Where has the time gone?
I am actually listed in four different high schools.
Levelland High School
Sundown High School
Reagan County High School
and
Lake View High School.
I am sure the folks in Levelland do not remember me since I was only there for the first six weeks (if that long), then we moved to Sundown where I finished out my freshman year. By the way, I went by my step-dad's last name of Driskell while living in Levelland and Sundown.
Also, I did not actually attend RCHS in Big Lake, I actually attended Junior High there.
Anyway, my Mom and step-dad divorced, so we ended up moving to San Angelo.
I ended up joining the Navy out of the 11th grade at Lake View High School.
It was probably the best thing I could have done. It gave me time to get my head on straight. I planned on doing one tour and getting out, but that tour lasted 25 years.
I retired in 1995 while stationed in Japan. I decided to stay in Japan...Expand for more
upon retirement and have been here since. All told, I have spent the last 25 years here in Japan. I am currently the Traffic Safety Manager for U.S. Naval Air Facility Atsugi Japan. Atsugi is a small base about 40 kilometers (25 miles) southwest of Tokyo. In addition I have additional duties as the Regional Traffic Safety Officer for Commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Japan.
I am a Motorcycle Safety Foundation RiderCoach Trainer, an AAA certified Driver Improvement Program Leader, and a Naval Safety Center certified Master EVOC Instructor. Part of my job includes training new Instructors for each of these fields. This is in addition to teaching the courses also.
Do I plan to return? Eventually I will. I come back to Texas for visits as often as I can, but I rarely get to visit folks I knew from school.
Maybe some of the folks I knew in school will eventually find me and I will get to visit on one of my trips to the states.
