Wendie's Story
I live in NYC and Norwalk, Connecticut, near my daughter and my two grandchildren. I married when I was 22 and had twin daughters and ten years later, I had a son. We divorced in l988.
When I was married, we lived all over the country- Washington, DC,Minneapolis, Los Angeles, McLean, Virginia and finally Port Washington. After I was divorced, I lived in Roslyn, Glen Cove and finally Norwalk. And then I got an apartment in NYC- which is where I'll be full time in a few years. I'm tired of moving.
I went to Barnard College, NYU School of Education- and much later- to CW Post. I have masters in education and counseling and I worked as a guidance counselor in Copiague for a few years. Growing up in Hewlett Bay Park did not exactly prepare me for working in Copiague-I was clueless! My best job, however, was working for the Bide-a-Wee Home Association, running their Education and Outreach Program. I love animals, but I feel especially in tune with the people who consider themselves "dog people" or "cat people." It was a real privilege to work for Bide-a-Wee- its a first class organization.
I stopped working when I moved to Norwalk. And I returned to my first love- which is the piano. I now go to the evening division of Julliard. I was a pretty good pianist when I was a kid-I loved my piano teacher, loved to practice- and then I got married a...Expand for more
nd had kids and hardly played at all for forty plus years. I was always told that I was a talented kid- and I wanted to see just how good I could get. The answer, nine years later- is: pretty good. It takes so much work- talent is cheap- you should see what's at Juilliard. All these wonderful kids who are amazing and only a handful will have performing careers.
I went out to Montana to visit Linda Kaplan and to see if it was as wonderful as she said it was.... it is. We went to Glacier National park- twice- and it was breath taking. She lives in Whitefish- which after the Five Towns, seems apt. Its a beautiful resort town with plenty to do-
I saw Linda Liman for lunch at Tavern on the Green just before it closed. I saw pictures of her paintings, and they were gorgeous.
I ran into Stan Silverman on 79th street in New York ..
Norma Wolfberg sold my mom's house in 2005...
I'm looking forward to reunion....
Many years later, I still live in Norwalk, still play the piano, added painting to the list of things I love to do and discovered the mindless joy of gardening. It's really another art form of color, shapes, and, if the wind blows, movement. Other than being an orthopedic mess, I'm in good shape. Much of my time is spent excercising, trying to maintain mobility. As my Mom used to say, "Growing old is not for sissies"... Right again.
