Wendy's Story

2015 - I've put off updating this info. as it has been a difficult year. Some years and moments are just hard, no matter how old you might be. I had a suicide in my family in September. Even though I am a mental health professional, this certainly stopped me in my tracks. Maybe I'll get around to writing some poetry. Still working in mental health at the same job. Life is so strange sometimes, and I hate sadness...it takes my breath away. Too much stress this year and I blew a hole in my eye which resulted in surgury...at least I got good drugs and the white of my eye was completely blood red for Halloween. Wonder if that means I'm not seeing things clearly enough. Hope all is well with anyone reading this profile. 2013 - Single again and liking it. Working in mental health since graduating from college (undergraduate). Writing some poetry every now and then. Had some published. My fame being published with Allen Ginsberg in a small obscure magazine out on the east coast. Went to college on an athletic scholarship (2 sports/basketball + softball). Good thing as college would have been too boring without playing sports. Will play softball this summer with my clients. Still magic with the ball flying into the glove and the sun beating down on bare skin. Although I don't feel as young these days. I went to grad school after working in the field for about 7 years. Continued working while going to grad school. Got a MSS (Master of Social Science) from CU at Denver. Still seems like I have more questions than answers, that philosophical/metaphysical bent. So in a lot of ways I'm still the same. Maybe a little wiser. The key word is a "little". Working a lot (12 hour days) in a facility for adults with mental illness. Gave up management so that I could work directly with clients again (which is my passion). Have been working in mental health since 1979. 27 of those years at one agency. Nov. 2013 Time is flying by, how come nobody told us it would be th...Expand for more
is way as we got older? It's like the Kenny Chesney song "Don't blink a 100 years goes by faster than you think". Then there's another quote that I read somewhere, "Now that I am old, old doesn't feel that old". I can still laugh at myself and often do, as it doesn't take much to amuse me. It keeps me humble and reminds me of what is important. I still have to remind myself to stay in the moment. You know the saying, "life is what happens to you when you are making other plans". I'm glad to say that life goes on (not necessarily always the way I like it). But there are lessons everywhere as long as I pay attention. Trying to go with the flow of the ups and downs of life. Oct 2012 - High School seems a million miles away although I have great memories and my senior year was the best of all my High School days. We had a great Senior class. Now almost 40 year later I realize that time does travel quickly. I continue to wonder if I have learned enough wisdom in trying to figure out this life. So I try to be more conscious of how I spend my time as it feels strange to be this old. Still trying to figure out things philosophically as that is a whole lot safer then just looking back with raw emotion. Still a therapist and hoping that I say something that is worthwhile to my clients. May 2013...still working in mental health, I figure retirement is a long way off or maybe when I am 70. That sounds so old. Although I don't feel as old as I am and certainly not as wise as I should be. Although my body feels every year from all of my athletic injuries. But being young and on a scholarship I prided myself on playing through my injuries (guess that was a dumb thing to do). Life tends to go faster as you get older. Guess I don't always pay attention to the fact that life can change in an instant. I'm reading (love my kindle) and starting to write poetry again (haven't done it for a number of years). I always understood myself and my life more clearly when I was writing.
