Wendy's Story

I'm Married to a Texan named Bart. Great guy (they don't breed them here in NY like him) This is the second time married.(Also the LAST) I have an awesome 26yr. old daughter Tina.(from 1st marriage) I work at a machine shop fabricating fiber glass parts for MRI machines. I'm one of four women working in the shop with 110 guys. Still have to be on the slightly tough side, (but as I've aged I'm much kinder, thoughtful, compassionate and God loving.) I believe the most important things in life are GOD and FAMILY.I try to do one good deed every day (FOR GOD).I was hurt in 1996 at work (I walked with a limp for years.)One day I prayed to walk without this nasty limp. It was only months later I walked better and better. Now days unless I told you you would never know I was ever hurt.God took away my limp, I do a Good Deed Daily. I Love my family. My parents are both in nursing homes.Mom is in Amsterdam and Dad is in Amsterdam also. Mom isn't doing so great. She doesn't get around so well.(Wheelchair Only)Her mind isn't there as it used to be. I visit weekly and try to make the best of our visits. She doesn't have much to say in those places there's not much new to talk about. She always tells me how many children she has. When she gets a visit from someone besides me it gives her something new to talk about. When she gets a phone call that's something new for her.So I try to talk about whatever new is going on in my life.I shop for her. I try to spoil her the best I can. She says I'm her "Guardian Angel".I know she would love to be out of there and living home. But she is so hard to care for...Expand for more
and fragile, she's in the best place for her.The nursing home has to do everything for her. When leaving the nursing home, my heart breaks to leave her there. Dad is in a nursing home in Amsterdam. He is still there with his mind and doing well.He didn't walk one step for over one year.He tried all his life to loose weight with no luck. In the last year he went from 392 down to 234lbs. and still counting. He has started walking again in February and he is up to 184FT on crutches. To keep his mind going and alert he's building Log Cabin Dollhouses.I visit weekly and he's always got something to talk about. I feel that it is so important for us to care for our parents.Children are responsible to care for our parents when they get old. It is hard to watch your Mom and Dad get old.It is hard to see them sickly. They deserve visits by all their children. Sometimes they become pains in the butt. But We as their children were pains in their butt also. I hope my daughter sees how I care for my parents, because I wouldn't want anything less for myself as an elder.I as an elder I will feel no guilt about the way I cared for my parents. They Love and Appreciate the way I Love Them. One year later:I Have moved My dad back in forth from n-home to adult home to hospital to rehab nursing home to adult home and now I have to move him again to another nursing home for rehab yet again...When he's done with walking rehab he wants to go back to the Adult home that he's in right now... Last he was weighed I think he said 218 from 392three years ago. I still love to craft & build anything and everything.
