Wendy's Story

Life We sold our house in Fountain and moved to Firestone Colorado the middle of March. My husband is happy to no longer commute weekly the 122 miles from the old house and we're grateful to have him home for supper every night. My daughter is getting settled into a new school and district. Not great timing as she's only got one quarter in this school before she starts high school and kids are still as mean as they were when I was young. With her disabilities she has a hard time understanding when the kids are trying to be friendly or when they're making fun of her. Maybe it's better that way, but it's hard to watch your child hurt. I'm in between employment opportunities. I really enjoyed teaching. Let me rephrase that... I enjoyed actually teaching the kids I h...Expand for more
ad at James Irwin... I didn't enjoy the religious right atmosphere of the school or the lack of direction from the administration and being held accountable for things I was never taught how to do correctly. Because that first year teaching experience was so mixed, I'm still coming to terms with whether or not I want to reenter the field of education. I've got the paperwork started to get my alternative license through the state of Colorado and everyone tells me that my experience was not normal and NO other school would be like that... Starting this week I'll be working for Kelly Services part time reading and grading standardized tests from other states. I'm also looking at a couple of other positions to just help us get through the summer and see what fall brings.
