Wendy's Story
Life
High School: People I remember most are from Band and Chorus and a few folks from Drama club. I used to hang out with: Lisa Adams, Leslie Katz, and other clarinet or flute players. My senior year, I got more serious about music and joined the Chorus with Mrs. Capezza, and took piano from Mrs. Mills. My memories, not surprisingly, stem from playing at Football games, and going out to McDonald's afterwards.
To churn up some memories from College at FSU from '79 to '84: I was a classical clarinettist interested in such serious things! I joined Sigma Alpha Iota in 1981 and am still involved today in the Fort Lauderdale Alumni Chapter. People I hung out with were (mostly Clarinettists): Hildy Edelman, Laurie Scholten Arizumi, Chris Steiner (violin), Chris Komatz (early childhood education), Martha Pedisich (English), and the SAI sisters. I do not practice much anymore (although I wish I did) but sometimes participate in the local SAI concert each year. I am currently teaching computer programming part-time(what a shift!) in the Miramar/Hollywood area of South Florida. My full-time gig right now is Web Technology Developer with Nova Southeastern University. But I am still loyal to FSU. Any noles out there??? Write me and I will exchange memories if I can.
I lived with my mom for almost 3 years from 2001 to Nov 2004. She nearly died from respiratory distress in Jan 2001 - not surprising considering she smoked for 40 years! Rather than teach overseas again, I stayed close to home for a time. It really wakes you up when you come close to losing a parent. I am glad for being so close to her these past 5 years. My brothers Rob and Steve and I lost her this past June 26th, 2006 and am greatful to have had an additional 5 years to get to know her as an adult.
I currently reside in Hollywood and hope to be part of the 30th reunion committee for MHS - Class of '78 and '79.
I am working on my doctorate in Computing Technology in Education at Nova Southeastern University in Davie. Hope to finish this puppy by 2010.

Jeff Gonsalves, Wendy Wolfner, Sharon O'Keefe, Lisa Adams, and any other crazy woodwind players from the band. I also often helped out with the theater folks with props, lighting, and prompting lines from the first row! Jeffrey Gonsalves - I want my MASH props back!
College:
First degree was in Music History from Florida State. Anyone out there that attended from 79 to 84 -- and was in the school of music? Were you in Sigma Alpha Iota or Phi Mu Alpha (I was a little sister) If you have any old photographs, I would love to receive a scanned copy from the old music building. It is gone now and it would be a lovely piece of nostaglia.

Workplace
Right out of FSU, I was a little lost. I worked in ticket sales for a symphony in Ft. Lauderdale and even did some retail work at Lane Bryant's. I got a job in ticket sales in Manhattan from 85-87 and things were a little difficult while there (roommate and living situations). After that, I returned to school to get certified to teach Math. In the late 80's and early 90's I was a substitute around Broward County and taught math here and there in short lived programs.
In '91 - I found a job teaching at an American School in Monterrey, Mexico and gleefully hopped on board to teach there. While there - I had a great time, met wonderful people and was hooked on teaching overseas! I was able to get a free masters degree in education while there as part of my contract..
In 94 - I had a most unique experience... I was a comptroller for Walt Disney World on Ice International - and worked in Argentina for 8 weeks and then in Mexico City for 8 weeks. It was a blast! Ice skaters are crazy people !
I almost finished yet another masters degree in Computer Science Education by 1995 and obtained a coordinator/teaching position in Malaysia (1995-1997) - I had a phenomenal time in Asia and would do it again in a heartbeat. Returning to Florida in 1997, I found work locally in Sunrise, Fort Lauderdale and eventually took a professorship at Keiser College in Ft. Laud. I recently finished YET ANOTHER degree in Information Technology in the hopes of moving into computer programming. Unfortunately, the IT market crash has prevented me from doing that.
I then worked just 10 minutes from my home at Florida Career College teaching computer skills and computer programming in Visual Basic 6.0, JAVA, Windows, Microsoft Access and Internet Use. I was there from July 2002 to December 2003. This job did lead to better and brighter things. I left Fla Career College and now teach at ITT-Tech in Davie since July 2003 (P/T) and March 2004 (F/T) and back to part-time in Sep 2006- a really nice atmosphere in which to work! I taught Computer Programming in Visual Basic 6.0 and .NET and Java, HTML, CSS and XML, Web Design, Instructional Design, and C Programming in a Linux Environment.
