Life
Sitting here in Duri, Sumatra , Indonesia after a good rehearsal for a 1950s musical production by the mostly expat middle school students I teach, reminded me of a long ago time in my own life at Forest View in my freshman days trying to decide whether to go across the "Road" and join my smoker friends - who all seemed quite interesting - or hang around with the jock crowd and do the cheerleading bit. I became a bit nostalgic at 56 years of age and in a weakened moment, tried to find some of the old classmate names from 1962-66.
After graduating at Augustana College, I married Kris Riber - a guy whose parents were from the midwest but was born and raised in India. After college we worked one year in the USA and we decided to teach internationallly for our careers. We have raised three children:Karl (31), Rani (our adopted baby from India...Expand for more
) is now 28, and Kai (27). Karl is just now in Harare, Zimbabwe where K & I worked and own a modest cottage, Rani and Kai are in the DC area. Kris and I have taught in international schools in India, Karachi, Dhaka, Singapore, Harare, and now here in Duri. Our summer holidays are spent at a little cabin in the northwoods so we can meet up with our kids, my Chicago family, relatives, and friends in the area.
The only reason I logged onto this site was because it claimed I could find classmates for free but again I am dismayed at the advertising which makes one assume you can actually contact them, which is not the case unless you pay.
Suzanne Hodson, Jim Baumgardt, Ray Roth, I saw all of your names and time went back in an instant! I sure hope all of you and other names I missed but know, are doing well.
