Wendy's Story
Life has been very interesting for me since I've graduated. After waiting 38 years to get married, I found a man who would do anything in the world for me. After being married for 9 months, I found out I had Breast Cancer in January 2005. The first 6 months of the year was very hard. I went through all the chemo and radiation treatments that were recommended for me. 3 months after my last radiation treatment November 2005, I was admitted in the hospital for a month. During this time....I had 9 doctors working on me and no one could figure out what was wrong. The final conclusion was, I had pneumonitis fibrosis and legionella disease. It is a form of pneumonia. In March 2006, I began to feel like my health was taking a turn again. I went back to the doctors and learned that I had congestive heart failure. This was due to the chemo drug I was given to treat my cancer. I would say, when it rains it pours. After getting that under control. I stayed cancer free until October 2007. I was diagnosed with reoccurrence breast cancer. This time, it showed up around my lung, a spot on my lung and in my lymph nodes and now a couple of nodu...Expand for more
les on my liver and of course a leison on my right rib that seems to be spreading. I was told that I was in stage IV. Once I found out my news, I got on the phone with the Cancer Treatment Center of America out of Zion, IL. Just north of Chicago. I don't think I have enough words to say about this place. It is just wonderful! I fly out there every 3 weeks to follow up on my treatments. I seem to have a very good doctor and I am putting my life in his hands. He specializes in Breast Cancer and ahead of the research team. They did have me on a study drug that has been successful over in Europe. But, unfortunatly it did not work for me. I am now doing Chemo treatments which will be a total of 6 treatments. August 2008 will be #6. From that point on, my treatments will be based one at a time until the doctor is comfortable in my cancer markers. Which I could say, he will extend my treatments since my cancer markers (blood test) are going down. I try to stay as positive as I can and I look forward in living a long and healthy life. My husband has been a trooper through this whole ordeal. I don't know what I would do without him.
