Wesley's Story

Life A year after graduation John Shoftstall thought it would be a good idea for me to go to collage. He picked me up at my work, took me to UCD where I enrolled. I only wish I would have felt it was as important. I jump into this thing called "LIFE" head first. I moved out and moved into relationship with my son's mom before I was 20. Worked as a mover for 3 years, a year longer than the relationship lasted. The guys I was working with, well at least the old- er ones, looked pretty rough for wear and the fact that this was considered unskilled labor bothered me. That is when I became a cabinet-maker appren- ice. Which was a four-year program with night school and on the job training. Over 16 years lat- er and much to my amazement I'm still in the trade. I've worked at Design Fabricators for the last 3-1/2years where I've moved into a machine lead position. Of couse work isn't the only thing going on contrary to management's belief. years to my son David. Then in the spring of 94' I married the coach of my son's soc- cer team. Dorthy brought with her 5 children from a previous relationship. Talk about instant fami- ly. The oldest is now 20, Angel who became a mom herself just a month ago. Yes a grandfather be- fore our 20 year reunion. The second to the old- est,Amber, has graduated with honors, joined the work force, and moved out herself. My son David now 17 is set to graduate from Thornton High this year. Amadeus also 17 works as a mover part-time is working on his GED. Abraham 15 will be at- tending Northglenn High this fall. And Andreus, the youngest, soon to be thirteen has been at- tending The PInnacle Charter School. Needless to say we keep fairly busy, but still find time to enjoy the company of friends. I enjoy music, documentaries on PBS, The Weak- est Link, learning (is a great gift),and just figuring-out how to make things work. Maybe John Shoftstall didn't have such a bad idea after all.
