Wilburn's Story
Life
Attended Dibble, Ok. H.S. 9th through 11th 1951 - 1953. 1954 was not in any school. Returned to finish High School and get my diploma in 1954-55 school year at Amber, Ok. At that time it was Amber 1st -12th grades. Only attended my Senior year. Graduated with 12 other classmates. Married my H.S. Sweetheart, we raised 4 daughters, married off 3 of them. We now have 7 grandsons, 4 granddaughters and 3 great granddaughters, 1 great grandson. Served 20 years in U.S. Navy. Next 20 years in textile industry as Electrician/machinist for Dixie Yarns Inc. Retired and now drive School Bus for Chickasha Public School System and loving what I do. Presently Secretary of Amber Alumni Assoc. covering 1913 through present. (After 1965, school was changed to Amber-Pocasset High School.) If you are interested in anything about the Alumni, feel free to contact me.
Workplace
After 20 years in the Military, I worked at a Radio Station mornings and went to school...Expand for more
in the afternoon to get a degree in Electronics so I could try for a position as Engineer at the Radio Station where I worked part time or any other radio station. My last semester changed class times to mornings and I was unable to change shifts so was unable to complete it. With the Electrical certificate, I managed to get a position at a Textile mill. Got my electrical credentials in the state of California. Also, I don¿t want to take any more test in Oklahoma to work here. I prefer to work part time as a school bus driver for Local School District.
I also drive the Church bus on Sunday's and lead a Senior Citizens group. The rest of the time I chat with friends, my kids and grandkids on the computer.
As I have said, I met the love of my life in October 1954. I was a Senior in H.S. and she was a Junior. We were married in May 1956 and spent 51 years and 9 wonderful months together. She passed away 2-15-2008 but she will always be in my heart.
