William's Story

Dear Kind Souls: “Man starts over again every day, in spite of all he knows, against all he knows.” Emil Cioran . Given the futility of this life, higher powers gave mankind 3 gifts for our spiritual sustenance. 1.) The folly to dream above the circumstance of our realities. 2.) the boldness to seek an enduring love, and 3.) the audacity of “hope”, that in spite that there is no evidence that mankind was ever intended to be happy, with colossal odds against us, we little flickers of light rage against the darkness of eternal night, and continue to try and make these lives worth living." “Hope is faith holding out its hand in the dark.” George Iles Hope is the lifeline we all cling to every day. It’s Hope that gets us out of bed in the morning. It’s Hope which buys that lottery ticket. Hope is the last thing will let go of before we die. It is Faith that gives us the strength to hold on another minute longer. We all have a message to bring to this world. Some will shine brighter than others, tempered by the time of their delivery. “Life is a cruel teacher. She loves to give you the test first and the lesson later.” ― Daymond John We are all works in progress, or regress. We all have lessons to learn. Some will learn them quicker than others. Here, it is in the timing in our lives, which means so much. I am the son, of a son, of a fisherman. I am the last in the line of countless generations of sailors, and fishermen. As a struggling vegetarian, I could not bring myself to take the life of another child of this creation. There are no atheists in a boat off shore taking water in the dark. Our Creator loves his/her sailors, fishermen, and shepherds, for their patience in the madness of those vacuous hours in the cold, and dark, when it is only you, with all your fears, tears, and bitter regrets, trying to bargain for our Creator’s forgiveness, and mercy. Many times, illusion, and or delusion, will mercifully substitute for hope, when real hope can no longer be found. Our humanity’s greatest hope is for tomorrow. Tomorrow is where Hope is forever young, strong, and is always magnificent in its power to seduce dreamers, and the wretched alike. Hope is the lifeline we all cling to, every day. Hope and Faith are the only two things we can take into the next world. One of my all-time favorite movies is John Ford’s, “The Long Voyage Home.” This film's opening prologue states: "With their hates and desires men are changing the face of the earth - but they cannot change the Sea. Men who live on the Sea never change - for they live in a lonely world apart as they drift from one rusty tramp steamer to the next, forging the life of Nations." This film's closing epilogue states: "So men like Ole [Olsen] come and go. And the Driscolls live and die, And the Yanks and Smittys leave their memories - but for the others, the Long Voyage never ends." In the frailness of our human condition, despite status, or s...Expand for more
tation, we all share in this; We all stand naked in the cold and indifferent judgment of time. From the rails of our first cries, to the moans our last sighs, we are all lost in this life, a thin ribbon of time, to wander this road, to learn the greater lessons of this existence. One lesson being, Pauper or King, Victor or Vanquished, wounded, and weary, we are all just walking home.... The shame of this is, so many cursed restless souls find where they are intended to be, and just keep walking past it. . In my life, I have made an unpaid career of trying to save fish from drowning. I still haven’t come to terms that, no matter how much we may love / care for someone, we can’t save anyone from themselves. . One day, when I hope to stand for judgement, I can say; " It is I, your child Will, the Fisherman, who grew to be a Shepherd. . One of my greatest self-revelations is, I understand why I love the Stars of the night's sky. It is because their message continues to be brighter than the darkness which surrounds them! We all have the essence of those stars within us. Dear Good Soul, Please Stay Strong, find Strength in Your Beliefs. Please forgive my lengthy reply, Will PS. Now you know why Jehovah’s Witnesses avoid me! 25 April 2008, I took an early retirement from my job of 36 years. I had 5 good offers of solid work sites to Captain an assortment of vessels long term. All offers meant I had to relocate, but I accepted that as part of the employment. I gave notice to my prospective employers I would like to have a few weeks to put my affairs in order, and all seemed thrilled that I was entertaining their offers. Well, each day the news on the economy just kept getting worse. Then came the calls explaining that there were going to be delays in my hiring. I suspected that our country was in trouble, when my perspective employers stopped calling me. Then I knew I was in real trouble, when they stopped returning my calls. Here it is 5 years later and counting, and I can’t find a site with a Geiger counter. I try to stay positive, but in the back of my mind I hear this old Chris Isaak tune playing on a endless loop. “When I was younger I believed that dreams came true. Now I wonder. Cause' I've seen much more dark skies, than blue. Now I wonder. I keep on praying for a blue sky, I keep on searching through the rain. I keep on thinking of the good times, will they ever come again? Now I wonder. Now I wonder. I keep on praying for a blue sky, I keep on searching through the rain. I keep on thinking of the good times, will they ever come again? Now I wonder. Now I wonder. When I was younger I believed, that I could win. Now I wonder. There was a time when you and I, walked hand & hand. Now I wonder. I keep on searching for the old me, I keep on thinking I can change. I keep on hoping for a new day, will I ever feel the same? Now I wonder. Oh I wonder. Now I wonder.” Be Well, and Stay Strong, Will
