William's Story

Life After leaving MHS, went to Penn State U. for a year, then spent 4 1/2 years in the USAF. My main employment during my working years was in computers starting as an operator then into programming large mainframe systems and finally as a systems analyst. Since retiring in October 1996 at age 60, my wife, Darla Wood, and I lived in Florida for 9 years. After which we returned to PA. We have 7 kids, 12 grandkids and 3 great grandchildren. We've cruised the Caribbean twice to many of the islands but our favorite is Aruba. We have no more relatives living in the Meadville area so the only time we would be visiting is when the class has another reunion and we WILL be there for that! 2009 Time for a 55th HS reunion! I heard there will be 40 alumni attending Aug 21-22. Not a real good turnout. Hope there are still many around for the 60th. My oldest daughter has chosen a new occupation since she was let go after 20 years with her old job. She is going to be a Real Estate Agent. Good for her!!! 2009 Darla and I are going to Branson for the holidays and having our youngest son Dave and his wife, plus our oldest daughter Barb and her significant other with us. It should be a blast! December - That trip to Branson was great. Check out the new photos! 2015 - Just had our 61st reunion picnic. Good turnout for 79 - 80 year...Expand for more
olds. Pictures posted on Facebook. Want to get in touch with me? wpcjokeratyahoodotcom. 2016 - Time for another class picnic. P.S. To all of you who read our Bio's, did you enjoy it? Why don't you do your own too? School Everyone knew that Ruth and I were together almost all the time. Graduation ended that in 1954 but in 2008 we reconnected by email only. Loved playing football but having my kneecap shattered ended that. Music became my main interest; Band and chorus. Remember Pete Hoke and I playing the fight songs at the basketball games? College Diane Barnhart and I riding horses in the woods. Going to Whipple's Dam. Keg parties at the frat houses. Workplace My workplace at this time in my life was as a shoe salesman at the Crawford Store during school times and during the summer as a janitor at Allegheny College. Military Began basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX. Was squad leader in Squadron 3723, Flight 57. Went to Francis E. Warren AFB in Cheyenne, WY for Base Supply Training. Was barracks chief. Transferred to Benguerir AFB in Morroco, N Africa where I worked in base supply. Transferred back to Homestead AFB in Homestead, FL. Transferred to Turner AFB in Albany, GA. Had further training at SAC HQ in Omaha, Nebraska on the 305 RAMAC, one of the FIRST data processing machines.
