I just signed up for a two year membership at the 50% off. I guess membership for our age group is dwindling? Please send me an email if you are interested in catching up on our lives.
Life
After graduating from high school in 1950 I worked for a couple years on our farm and in our salvage business. I was drafted in Dec. 1952 and spent a year and a half in the US Army in the Korean Police Action!
After leaving the service in 1954 I was married and went to work in the Westinghouse plant in Horseheads NY making TV tubes.
After about 6-8 months in the most boring job I ever had I was laid off!
I then went to work for an Oldsmobile Dealer as an auto body apprentice under my GI bill of rights. I managed this shop for about 5 years and then went to work as an Insurance adjuster for Allstate Ins. Co. in Rochester NY.
After about 3 years in Rochester I was promoted to an Office supervisor in W. Hartford Ct. where I spent the balance of my working career. In all I had 33 years service with Allstate.
I've had a great marriage and have 4 children all grown and on their own. Two Dr's, a Diesel Technician, and a daughter with an MBA. I have 4 grandchildren and we have a very close and happy family.
I still play my banjo and do senior visiting, surf the internet, digital photography, and travel to occupy my time.
ON Sept. 29, 2004 my younger brother Charley died from bone cancer. He had been in and out of the hospital for about 6 months.
Two days before Thanksgiving my youngest sister Judy died from B...Expand for more
rain cancer. She had been diagnosed in Oct of 2003 with a serious brain tumor. Her prognosis was not good. She was sent home to the care of Hospice in about April with only a few weeks to live. However she managed to hang on until almost her birthday. On Thanksgiving day she would have been 52.
Judy was a few weeks old when I left for Korea!
Dec. 28, 2004 update on my health. I've been diagnosed with Pulmonary fibrosis a lung disorder. I recently underwent a steroid therapy on prednisone and it seems to have helped my condition. I had a good result on the scan, and my breathing test showed some improvement. I'm on a maintenance dose of prednisone now for another 8 weeks, then I must go back for more testing etc. Looking good for now. My cholesterol is also the best it's been since I've been keeping records. Blood pressure also remains under good control.
Dec. 1 2010 Another year is coming to a close. I posted a picture of myself with a bandaged hand taken in Oct. 2010 at Banjo Camp North. I slipped and fell the first night so I was out of commission for banjo playing. The friend in the yellow shirt is Murray Gallagher from Southington Ct. He did that excellent bandaging job on my hand!
Nov. 25, 2013 getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving then Christmas and close out another year. I hope to turn 82 next Feb 5th. Lost two of my classmates within a week this past few weeks. Robert D. Smith and Wendell Smith. We are still in reasonably good health but don't travel as much as we used to.
