William's Story

After graduating from South High School in 1960, I joined the U. S. Navy for 4 years. While in the Navy, I was trained in computer electronics and spent the rest of my time in the Navy on a Guided Missile Destroyer, the DLG-13. After the Navy I got a job with Vitro Services at the Red Stone Arsenal as an Electronics Technician. I was transferred to Fort Walton Beach Florida in 1968 where I worked no the night shift. I went to Pensacola Jr. College during the day and earned my Associate's Degree. I then quit and moved to Akron, where I attended the University of Akron where I earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering. I went to work for Ohio Edison Co. as an Electrical Engineer in the Subs...Expand for more
tation Design Department. I stayed with Ohio Edison Co. for 8 years before my wife and I decided that we wanted to live in a warmer climate. We interviewed several companies before deciding the go to work for Florida Power & Light Co. in Miami, FL. I stayed with FPL for 12 years and then started working for a consultant using a specialized computer software for grounding and AC interference studies. In 1995, I started to work for Austin Energy in Austin, Texas until I retired in 2011. I've published several significant papers on the work I did for Austin Energy and earlier. I was forced to retire when I did because my wife ended up getting Alzheimer's Disease. Otherwise, I would probably still be working.
