William's Story

Hello Everyone, I am sitting in my home in Sault Ste. Marie, ON. I got married in 2006 to my longtime girlfriend, Elaine. I work as a fisheries technician with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. I am involved with projects ranging from assessment of fish habitat to Acid Rain impacts on the fish communities of 52 remote lakes. I get to fly in helicopters, canoe remote lakes, Snorkel and SCUBA dive, and of course fish. I use all sorts of methods to catch fish: angling, trap, gill, hoop nets, electrofishing, visual methods. Of course, what I seem to be doing more and more of these days is sitting in front of a computer writing reports and organizing students and interns who get to do all of the fun stuff. ne and I bought a wonderful little cottage in 2001 on a 100 ha lake 33 minutes from our front door in the Sault. We spent 10 weeks in 2000/2001 in Australia and New Zealand, travelling around visiting friends and eating exotic foods, we liked it so much we went back in 2003. I have been very involved in community theatre in the Sault, mostly backstage-set building, set crew, set design, and producing, but have actually been on stage twice (well the 2nd time was filmed and shown as part of the play while Elaine and I were in Australia. Look us up if you are passing through the Sault. All the best to everyone, I hope that you are all enjoying life and are happy with the choices you have made. Cheers, Bill Gardner
