William's Story

Life, Hello to all fellow 1981 classmates. After high school, I relocated to Las Cruces where I attended NMSU. Graduated in 1985 with a BA in Criminal Justice. Married in 1985, had a daughter in 1985, and went to work for the NM prison system in 1985. Divorced in 1987, and remained seemingly sentenced to singleness for the next 12 years. It was by choice. I continued in Las Cruces with the prison there, and work my way up the ranks. I left in 1998 to work in Santa Fe, at Central Office. I worked in Compliance in the final stages of vacating the Duran lawsuit that plagued the state for 20 years. We finally received the Federal order to vacate, 12/1998. January 1999, transferred to Roswell as the Associate Warden of Programs. After my transfer I was able to convince a pretty young lady from Deming to marry me, and we were wed May 29, 1999. The prison is a quiet little minimum custody prison out in the middle of no place. 32 miles South of Roswell, and 25 miles North of Artesia. In November of 2000 I was promoted to Deputy Warden, and am second in command only to the Warden. That is my next goal before considering retirement. It has been ...Expand for more
great here, and I have been able to do some excellent things reference my career. I have also finally been able to fulfill a dream of mine. Last July I bought a 2000 Honda/Shadow-Aero, 1100cc. I love to cruise, and it has been a joy to play on. I recommend it to any one. That is about it, it would be great to hear from any one from the old days. Good bye for now. Update as of January 2010, I am still the Deputy Warden at the Roswell Correctional Center, but now have until December 30, 2010 to make it to my retirement eligibility. Don't know if I will retire, but it'll be nice to get there. An update to the prison, it is now a Level II facility, and our population is 312. We now have fences, unlike it was when we were a Level I facility. In September of 2009, I lost my lovely wife if 10 years, to breast cancer, it has been tough, as I live alone. I get visits from the kids, but not often, some times I get to watch my two oldest grand daughters, that helps. I guess that is it for now, if I think of anything else I will give an update then. Update, my newest, and youngest grand daughter will be 1 year old on July 5th. That makes a total of 9
