William's Story
Hey, y'all !!
Contrary to most folks best guesses, I did not seek a career as an actor, but I loved doing plays with the theatre club at Sandia. Actually, I began a career in the U.S Army in 1966. Go Figure!! I initially trained an Infantryman, small arms expert and Sniper at FT Ord, Ca.. For the first year and a bit I served in Viet Nam. I returned to the U.S. and was selected to attend a one year course in emergency treatment of medical and minor surgical diagnoses (a P.A. sort of job) and had a position on a surgical ward at Ft. Riley, Ks. as an Independent Duty Senior Medic . I would still serve as a sniper/medic when and where needed, usually with small Ranger teams looking for bad guys in this place or that place, or some other nasty place. Usually in Central America. I continued to spend time as a medic, usually with infantry units doing field training. After spending a few more years in Texas, Italy, Turkey, etc. I applied for long term schooling while at Ft. Bragg, N.C. I earned my MSN in admin, and another in Comm.Health At UNM grad school, I then continued my duty as a Hospital and field RN, serving at Fort Carson, Honduras, El Salvador and Ft Bragg, N.C. etc. As time pa...Expand for more
ssed, I realized I started this army thing as a Private, and next thing I knew, I was a Major. through the years I served in Italy, supervised a clinic in Turkey. I served in the 82nd airborne as the RN on their Forward Airborne Surgical Team (FAST Team) in Iraq, ln Saudi Arabia, and "other" countries. HUUAAH !!! it's an Army Thang... During operations Desert shield and Storm my service was with a French artillery unit. I served as a medic ONLY on recon missions. I returned finally returned to the USA at Fort Bragg, N.C. I set the long weapon aside and was selected to be Chief Nurse at Fort Lee Virginia, and Fort Riley, Kansas. I Retired at age 50, as a Lt. Colonel and headed back to Fayetteville/FT Bragg N.C. As you probably have figured out, I HATE BAD GUYS!! I love US Warriors and I LOVE the Army!! I Support the "Wounded Warriors Project", whole heartedly " because I are one". Given the choice, I would saddle up and do the same thing again. It has been an adventure, an honor and a privilege to serve and protect the GREAT folks of This Nation. I have a remarkable partner in my wife of 33 years, a great son, and two daughters who think I'm crazy. The daughters are probably right.
