William's Story

I always wanted to be a mechanic when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a crazy idea. As it turns out, they were wrong. Since I can remember I just loved cars. My brother and I would sit on our porch and tell what kind of car was coming... now they all look alike, that would be a trick! I started working on my parents car since I was 12, I put a carburetor on our 1965 Rambler Wagon. After graduation I got a job a Sears and was made full time when I tuned 18, that was a big deal back then! Sears sent me to Chicago for training on tuneups and front end work. I then went to a Dodge dealership where I was getting training in Chicago on carburetors and many area's of the new cars. I never said I'd work for American Motors but I got my Journeyman's Card in Industrial Truck Repair and worked in skilled trades for 9 years. As I worked on fork lifts and any gas power or DC electric powered material handling equipment. I continued my education keeping up dated on the changes to the new cars engines and computer control systems. In 1986 I opened my own business AFB Performance Automotive and ran it for 20ty years. I managed to get tested and receive an ASE Master Certification in 8 area's of the automobile. Also after graduating I started drag racing my car. In 1975 I bought a 1970 AMC AMX and in 1976 made it in to a drag car. In 1984 after racing at the Grove I started to travel in the Midwest Div. 3 of NHRA Sportsman Class. I did that until my last ...Expand for more
competition in 2001. During the 90tys I teamed up with Chris Tenuta of the Deli which he had a rear engine dragster. I was the crew chief on his car from 1988-2001 building engines and wiring the car, what ever it took... for the most part both of are cars were well respected and very competitive, I think that was more important than winning, but it never hurt to win! I guess that's about it, sadly I am divorced yet I have to say I had 30 wonderful years with Felecia. We have a wonderful daughter,Andrea Tremper Class of 2000! I still think my marriage was good but all good things in life come to an end like it or not... The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is Brenda Mancuso, because she touched my heart.. If I could improve my home, I'd remodel basement and add on a garage. My dream home would be modest at most. On the day my daughter Andrea was born was the day my life and strength of fighting to take care of a new child in this world. Always being very afraid of certain issues my fear were gone because of my responsibility of protecting my child came to reality. Never could I stand up in front of a class in school, I wss scared. The day after Andrea was born we had our last lamas class. The instructor told me to tell the class how it went. After choking on a few words you couldn't shut me up. I was so full of pride from the gift Gd had past on to me. I took over the class and talked to each person there! I totally shocked my family!!!
