William's Story
Life
Graduated from U of F in 1970. Started working on my Master's at FAU, with more at the U of F. Taught school several years. Worked in corporate world until my dad died and I went home. Opened a shop selling cut coin jewelry and Spanish Treasure Coins in 1979. Have specialized in Spanish Treasure, especially that of the Atocha for 25 years, mounting over 30,000 coins to date in gold, with many going to celebrities. Sold out in 1993 and moved to Lake Helen, a small Key West type community just off I-4 between Daytona and Orlando.(Lots of Conchs nearby) Got in with the Nascar guys and do private showings for them and their wives in garages, skyboxes and the like at the races. Lots of fun. Married Ruby Bailey in 1986 when I was 39 and we had Lauren a year later. Lauren will soon be 17 and is ...Expand for more
doing great. She and her mother live in Homestead. I remarried in 1990 to Suzi Kelly, a retired Phd. educator from Alabama. I am in Key West a lot as I still wholesale Atocha coins and artifacts. We also have a boat which works the 1715 Treasure Fleet near Sebastian, Florida. I found my first "Piece of Eight" in 1987. We got lucky a few years ago and found a gold box, with a rosary, and five emerald and amethyst rings in it. We have been featured for that find on the Travel Channel for nearly a year in a story on "Where to find Treasure in America". Life has been good. I am old, gray headed, and overweight(but then again, I always was). Other than that, I can't complain. I hope to see some of my friends at the upcoming class reunion in Key West this year. Drop me a line.
