William's Story
1974 - Joined a construction union immediately after graduation and got married (Big Mistake!). The union thing worked out well, the marriage didn't. We do have a son, Rick who is 6'5" tall and a martial arts expert - watch out!
1986 - I married a second time to Chris Myrick (Class of 79), we're as happy today (2009) as we were when we first wed. We had a child late in life, Billy who was born ten years later in 1996. Beautiful, healthy and happy; what more can you ask for...
1990 - Elected as CEO of the construction union that I joined immediately after graduation. I began a second career learning about leadership, negotiating, organizing, running an office, and the most surprising and enoyable skill of all, teaching.
2000 - We packed up our bags and move to Maryland so I could take a job managing a national training program for the union. The program is a partnership between Labor, Managment and the U.S. Department of Labor and designed to help disad...Expand for more
vantaged youth learn entry level construction skills. We live within the triangle between Washington DC, Annapolis and Baltimore and have fallen in love with the area which is bordered to the east by the Chesapeak Bay.
2005 - I become an associate editor for a trade magazine called Walls & Ceilings. It's a part-time gig where I write a monthly column on issues related to Labor, Plastering, Decorative Finishes, and Vocational Training.
2009 - I have gone back to school after 35 years to persue a BA in Labor Leadership & Administration. My younger son has turned 12, getting mostly A's in school (better than his parents) and has recently earned the Boy Scout rank of First Class - we couldn't be prouder of him. Most of my spare time these days is taken up remodeling our 30 year old Colonial Style home in Maryland or tinkering with my Jeep.
To use a sports metaphor to describe my life so far, I'd say I have hit a home-run!
Now let the second half begin! :-)
