William Scanlon:  

1969 Joined the merchant marine. 1970 Draft board on my heels, enlisted in Navy Nuclear Power became an electrician. 1971 Declared Christ as Lord. 1972 Navy sent me to Purdue University. Married Lois Joy Swartz. As a navy wife she allowed me to drag her all over the planet. She gave up whatever professional dreams she had to support my career and raise our kids. She is responsible for every good thing in my life and I am responsible for every tear she has shed in the last 47 years. Dec 1975 Graduated with BS in Aeronautics & Astronautics Engineering. Commissioned Ensign. Feb 1976 Son, John Paul, born. 1976 assigned to USS Independence CV-62 in Norfolk, VA and training in Newport, RI. Independence makes cruise to Mediterranean. Sept 1977 Daughter, Michaelle Lois, born while daddy is in the med. 1977 Promoted to Ltjg and qualified Surface warfare Officer and Engineering Officer of the Watch on multi-plant system. 1978 Lois and Bill honeymoon in Rome, Italy. 1979 Promoted to Lieutenant. 1980 Begin shore duty as an instructor at Dam Neck. 1983 MS in Engineering from Old Dominion and back to Newport, RI for school. Promoted to Lieutenant Commander. 1984 to 1987 Department Head on ASW Frigate and Guided Missile Destroyer in Yokosuka, Japan. Family gets to see Japan, Korea, Philippines, Singapore and Hong Kong. 1987 to 1990 Assigned to US Central Command, Macdill AFB, Tampa, FL. 1990 Retired form the navy and became and instructor for Lockheed Martin in New J...Expand for more
