William's Story

Life After high school I joined the Marines. I was injured after under a year and was honorably discharged. I then got into security for a while guarding banks, offices and such. I also became a special effects artist for a year working on models, painting sculpting and such. The largest film I had worked on was "True Lies" back before the Northridge earthquake in 93-94. I moved to Arizona for a year to spend time with some close friends from Polly, but we had a falling out and I returned to California. I remained in the San Fernando Valley for a few months until moving to Lomg Beach. I remained in the security officer business for a total of 6 years roving from place to place throughout S. California. I starting attending college at Cypress community college in orange county, where I met my fiance Michelle. We have been together for 8 1/2 years now accept for a year break up we had. Michelle has 3 sons from a previous marriage that are currently ages 15,16 and 19. Her youngest and his girl friend just had their first baby so even though I'm not blood related I am much like a grand father now. Two of the three kids will be living with us again and in time so will the mother of the baby, as well as possibly her sister and cousin. Lots of mouths to feed. Michelle and I are not married yet, but we will likely get around it in time. I have no kids of my own as hers keep me more than busy. Over the past 7 1/2 years I have owned my own business in the swimming pool industry. I've been fairly successful with that having 2 employees and near 200 service accounts cleaning and repairing swimming pools. I am soon to retire from that and am currently selling my business and looking to move back to Arizona around the Phoenix area. This is present time, today is May 25,2005. I'm looking to move in July or august of this year as the real estate prices here in California have gotten to be too expencive. I'm looking to start work with a swimming pool builder in Arizona, making for a slight career change but within the same field. Unfortunately, after graduating from Polly I did't keep in touch with anyone. Being in the Marines then the constant moving around kept me too busy to maintain much contact with anyone. Just the other day I cleared out an old storage unit as I was packing to move out of state and found my old Polly year book. After thumbing through it I decided to look up this web site and register myself. Anyhow, that's where I am in life up to this point. I don't know who all would remember me, but who knows. School Biggest crush? LOL the list is long. I was far too geeky and invisible to girls in high school though so there was zero romance there. I was far too angsty and shy anyhow. I look back on those high school photos and absolutely cringe. Wow did I ever need some help...hehehe. I remember this girl named holiday from my homeroom class...Mr. Gostin was the teacher. She was always a sweetheart. Another girl named Karen as well. She was really cute and a sparkling smile and p...Expand for more
ersonality. She was friends with Chung Show and a few others from a little circle of friends we had. I remember at a party she walked through a glass door, practically unscathed. Talk about lucky. But she was always really sweet as well. But I was far too insecure to approach girls at the time. I'm sure glad I've changed for the far far better in that respect, but I often wish I'd fit in and were more comfortable in school. College College was a handful of semesters at best. I didn't graduate. I held the impression that it was a bit of a money scam with professors selling their own books as required material that we didn't even study from. I learned a bit there in college but shortly after branched out and started my own business. I've known too many unemployed friends with their bachelors degrees. I may return to college in time, bit more for self education than a means to secure employment. Workplace Ok...work has been plentiful. Even there in Polly I was working at the student store handing out chips and soda for a couple extra bucks. My social life was flat so, why not make a couple bucks right? Anyhow, from Polly I joined the Marines. I was in basic training a week after graduation. That didn't last long as in short time I was injured. I had developed leg injuries that wouldn't heal anytime soon. So I was honorably discharged from the Marines and ended up back at home. From there I got several jobs in the security field. I'd worked at many different sites in security including banks, construction lots, downtown Los Angeles in some of the high rises in the diamond district and was often time a supervisor of some sort. amazing what an honorably discharged Marine can get, even if I wasn't in for long. Some of my art work was noticed and from there, on the side I had the opportunity to work with a special effects artist and later, become one. I worked in the field on films, commercials, props and many other projects for a year up until the Northridge earthquake in 93-94. It was very difficult finding work in special fx after that for me. So I got back into security to pay the bills. After a total of 6 years of that I started my own business in swimming pool cleaning. I've had as many as 2 employees and 200 accounts at my high point. I've been doing that solidly for the past 7 1/2 years but am currently selling my business and looking to move to Arizona and hopefully take on a job with a swimming pool builder. And that's what work I've been up to so far. Military Not much to speak of here really. I was in...busted up my legs after several months of training...and I was out...simple as that. But, I am honorably discharged from the Marines. I was in from 91-92. My traing was in infantry 03-11 but again, my service was brief. My leg injuries were caused from over training. I'd developed shin splints and later stress fractures over both of my shins and couldn't walk for a while. Sometimes, even to this day I feel the injuries...paticularly when it gets cold and wet outside.
