William's Story

After graduation from High School (Class of 1963) entered the U.S. Marine Corps, Vietnam Veteran 65', and retirement from the Marine Corps Reserve in 1991. I have had many tours at Headquarters Marine Corps, Pentagon, and 8th & I (Marines on Parade), Quantico, and California bases. I received my Bachelor Degree from Virginia Tech and my Masters Degree from the University of Virginia. Although I wanted to become a High School Principal with all my military background, I have been working in the business world at Waste Treatment plants, Water Softener plants, Power House, Injection Molding, and Security. I spent six years in Europe (Stuttgart, Germany), with 2004-2005 in Iraq/Afghanistan as a civilian contractor. My wife (Carol Luttrell) spend five years in Europe with me and we moved back to Front Royal in 2010 with me at our same house for 35 years. We have three grown children (2 boys and 1 girl) and five grandchildren at this time. I have given up fly fishing, hiking the Appalachian Trail but play golf as often as possible thanks to my days as a caddy at the Winchester Country Club. I won th...Expand for more
e Stars & Stripes golf tournament in Europe 2009. This was a great pleasure to win this tournament and have my name entered on the cup representing 50 years of the "Stars & Stripes" tournament. I continue to part time dealing with golfers as a ranger and substitute teacher at local high school. My golfing activities are almost full-time. The "Battle of Front Royal" was written to enhance the activities of the battle for the Visitor Center of Front Royal. My favorite Civil War Generals are "Stonewall" Jackson and Joshua Chamberlin. I have many Kunster/Strain prints to decorate my basement plus a den full of Marine Corps memorabilia. I enjoy class reunions even as they have become annual events. Our Handley High sports (especially football) meet monthly rehashing old memories at lunch. Our annual class reunion (2016) will be at Steve Bauserman's farm just as our graduation class party. Do you remember? Presently, I am entering the political arena by entering my name for election in the Front Royal Town Council election in November. I am busy getting my signatures to be placed on the ballot.
