William's Story
Life
William E. Stanley, Jr., the 28th National President of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., has a long distinguished career of service to the fraternity. Bill Stanley has served as National 1st Vice President, as Southern Regional Director and Wisconsin State Director, and as special assistant to two National Presidents. He was also National Director of Undergraduate Affairs (now Collegiate Affairs). He founded more than six chapters and is Life Member #160.
A native of Durham, North Carolina, Brother Stanley graduated from Hillside High School in Durham and is a graduate of North Carolina Central University with a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Sociology. Additionally, he received a Certificate from the University of Maryland in its Leadership Development Program.
He is retired from the Clorox Company on August 10, 2006. His last position was Military Channel Leader with responsibility for the company's worldwide military business. Prior to joining the sales management team at The Clorox Company, he was a Unit Manager with Procter and Gamble.
Bill Stanley is now President of Creating Clarity, Inc., a consulting company which has as clients: Boyd Coffee Company of Portland, OR, Cott Beverage Company USA, Tampa Florida, The Mabel Katz Show of Los Angeles, AT&T, Favorite Foods of Hawaii, and Starscriber Telecommunications.
As a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia, he is active on the Board of Deacons, plays in the Adult Handbell Choir, sings in the Men's Ensem...Expand for more
ble and is a member of the Friendship Theatre Guild. In addition to his work in the church and service to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc., he is involved in many activities to promote community enrichment such as the Kellogg Foundation's (national) Task Force on African American Men and Boys. He was the first president of the Woods of Briarlake Homeowners' Association.
He has received numerous awards and recognition, including six Phi Beta Sigma Presidential Citations, Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities, Who's Who Among Greek-lettered Organizations, Kentucky Colonel Award, Phi Beta Sigma Executive Director's Award, Phi Beta Sigma Southern Region's Outstanding Sigmas and Social Action Awards, Friendship Baptist Church Outstanding and Dedicated Service Award and National Alliance of Business Award. Recently he received the NAFEO Outstanding Alumni Award and was listed on Ebony Magazine's "100 Most Influential Blacks in America" list in 1993 and 1994. In July of 1997, he was awarded the highest honor in Phi Beta Sigma--the Distinguished Service Key. He was elected President of the Distinguished Service Chapter.
He is the father of three daughters, Elisa, Erica and Elenda. ( Elisa is graduate of Tuskegee University with a B. A. Degree in Business Administration Erica is a graduate of Gupton-Jones College with a degree in Mortuary Science. Elenda is a graduate of Florida A&M University. He has one son, Garrett, who is 13 years old. His wife Emily is a Manager for AT&T.
