William H's Story
Life
After SHS I joined the army and served in Viet Nam , went to college. I was self employed as a general contractor after that, for 10 years. Then decided to be a Realtor selling dairies for 35 years and retired in 2012. I travel extensively to the Orient and Europe nearly every year. When I was 38, I met a wonderful Finnish gal that captured my heart, and I married her. Annikka has brought me much happiness.Together we had Finn Realty, Finn Realty construction, Finlandia Dairy, Dairy and Farm Real Estate, Flying Dutchman Self Storage and other investments. Annikka was a widow and had two children. We now also have 3 wonderful grandsons. I still take my annual trips to the Netherlands, Switzerland, Austria and Germany, and Vietnam, Cambodia etc. My wife does not care to travel anymore, she said that she traveled enough before she met me and is happy at home with her children and grandchildren. Annikki may join me maybe every 4-5 years, then we also go to Finland to see her family. We also own a house in Finland that , I along with Annikka and my buddy from Holland completely remodeled it. We moved from Sunnyside to a condominium in a gated community on Willow Lake in Yakima, so that we would be closer to the family. Annikka and I live in our home in Yakima 3 days every week and in our home in Leavenworth 4 days every week of the year except for our side trips. We love to have cocktail parties , dinners and barbeques throughout the year with our friends in Leavenworth, who are all immigrants like us, Germans , Austrians, Belgians etc. We enjoy the accordian and brass bands and singing the traditional European festival songs. Annikka and I just returned from Cambodia, Hong Kong and Vietnam , we had a great time in Vietnam. In 2009 I traveled to all the places I was in the war from the DMZ to Chu Lai. We are helping out an Orphanage in Tam Ky plus helping two Vietnamese kids through a 5 year University.
I am traveling back to Vietnam again this winter 2010 and will go to Hanoi, Saigon and 2 weeks in the Da Nang and Tam Ky and Hoi An area.
Thanks to you who have emailed me, it is always good to hear from friends
I have been back to Vietnam 10 times, and going again this Nov. 2011, the 2 students that I am supporting thru 5 years of University are now in their last year. I am also still involved in the TamKy Orphanage.
I was in Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia again this past July 2012. I brought my daughter in law back with me since she received her visa while I was there, she married my stepson Pat April of 2010in Vietnam. Her sister Thein is graduating from the University in Sept this year, her brother De will graduate ...Expand for more
next year, I paid for their 5 year studies since they are poor peasants and have nothing. Another sibling Nhat has graduated, I recently finished paying for her College also, I have one more sibling, Binh to take care of when she is ready to go. It is very rewarding to be able to help them, I am their life line to better themselves and happy to do it otherwise they would be working in the rice paddies all their life.
I will start going back to Europe again this next spring 2014, traveling to the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Austria and France, my cousin in Holland usually goes with me, my wife does not care to travel anymore except on our annual holidays to Hawaii.
March 2014, I am off to Europe again for 3 weeks this coming March, Netherlands, Germany and Austria.
I went back to Vietnam again via ASIANA AIR February of 2015 for the TET celebration with my daughter in law's family, I will meet Ha my daughter in law there.there , then she will go back to the USA with me. As soon as Ha becomes a citizen this year will bring her parents here hopefully by March of 2016, I am already in the process of building a place for them to live at no charge since they are very poor. After that I will try to get the rest of the family here.
I have been busy as always, my project that I have been working on for the past year next to my Storage facility near Leavenworth is now complete I just finished building 5 private garages plus a shop for my use with an apartment above it for my Vietnamese daughter in law's parents when they arrive here next year, I am working on their papers at this time for their visas. My daughter in law Ha, will now become a citizen, she has completed all the necessary documents for that. I will be going back to Vietnam again next year.
I finished building the garages , shop and the apartment for Ha's parents, Pat and Ha have moved from Seattle into this apartment until their new home in Wenatchee is built, it should be ready by October. I hope that Ha's parents will be here by November or December, then Ha and I will go to Vietnam to bring them back to the place that I built for them. They will live there since they have no other. I might also mention that Ha became a US citizen this year.
Ha and I went to Vietnam in March 2017 to get her parents, But her father had an issue with his lungs, however it was an old scar, so they finally arrived in July 2017 and are now working in Leavenworth. Ha's sister will be coming here in early summer. I purchased a beautiful 5 acres on Blewett Pass with 1100 feet of creek frontage, I started setting up for a foundation last week and will be pouring the footing this week.
