William's Story

Life (as of 2007) I have been progressively moving myself north, over the last 25 years, and I am currently in Northern California, still on the beach, running my own business and being a dad. Santa Cruz and Morgan Hill is a lot like North County, just a lot colder and way more liberal! What's a Republican like me, doing in a place like this? I am remariied, to a wonderful woman, Jenny, who grew up just north of us in Orange County. We have a lot in common, especially active sports like snow and water skiing! My youngest of four children is currently serving in the Army. Andrew, 23, is now married and living in Colorado Springs, having already served one tour in Iraq. My two oldest children (Bill, 31 and Laurel, 29) are married and living in Fresno/Bakersfield, Ca. and doing well, with 2 and 3 kids each, while my youngest daughter, Heather, 27, is working in Orange County. Bill Jr. made me a grandpa with a girl, Ashley (6) and a boy, William (2) and one on the way, and Laurel gave me three grandchildren (a son, Trevor (5), and two daughters, Brynn (3) and Mia, just turning 1)! I am looking forward to the next reunion (whenever that is). I would love to catch up with classmates before then. E-Me! School I enjoyed high school, especially my friends, sports and extra curricular activities (newspaper, class government). I never studied as much as I should have, but with the help of dedicated teachers like Georgina King, Don Johnson, Les Swaim, Bob Lewis, Bob Fisher, Carl Miller, Marvin Sippel, Mr. Casey and Robert Etnire, I gained important knowledge and skills that helped me through college and even on, to this day. I appreciate the support we received from the administration, especially Principal Lynn Davies and Superintendant Howard Harmon. (Update: I forgot to tell one of my favorite stories, about one of our teachers: Some will remember John Albarico, an English teacher, at CHS. He taught me and also, my first wife, Pam Layton.) It was about 20 years later (maybe 1993) when my two oldest kids, Bill and Laurel, we’re attending BHS, in Bakersfield. They had a substitute teacher, in their English classes. When the teacher was calling the roll, he stopped, when he read my son’s name and asked him if his parents were Bill and Pam. My son was caught off guard and couldn’t believe that this stranger could know so much about him. Mr. Albarico informed them both, that he had taught their parents, 20+ years earlier!! It blew their minds!! I still remember Mr. Albarico’s spelling tests, at CH...Expand for more
S! (50 year Update) A lot has happened, in the last 15+ years… All my kids are married and rearing their families and doing well. My oldest son, Bill, is now an Attorney, in Fresno. My oldest daughter, Laurel, is a HS teacher, in Bakersfield. My youngest son, Andrew, has Retired, from the Army (he served 3 tours, in the wars, in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as 3 years in Italy)., among many other assignments. And now he is starting work, with ICE. My youngest daughter, Heather, who married a CHP officer, is home schooling two of her kids, in the Sacramento area. They all volunteer, leading at church and other organizations. I also have 2 more kids and two more grandchildren, now… Jenny’s boys are in their 30’s. Garrett is married, with 2 kids (Tessa, 3 and Enzo, 1) of his own. He is an entrepreneur. He is the only kid, living out of California, at this time. He and his family are in Ohio, living in a beautiful area, near Columbus. His brother, Troy is single, no kids and he works in Sacramento. My grandchildren, mentioned above, are almost ALL in college, now. My granddaughter Brynn, is playing soccer, at a D1 school and the 2 oldest (Ashley and Trevor) are considering med school! Ashley, an accomplished soccer player, had been the goalie, for the top rated women’s soccer team, at Fresno City College, when she attended there. Mia is a straight A student, in HS. (They must have gotten their brains and talent, from me… Because their parents still have theirs!) Plus, there are several more grand kids, as well: My son, Bill added 2 more (Samuel, now in high school and Allison, 12). Both are very athletic and love sports. His son (William) has started college and is a promising auto mechanic and plays the Sousaphone, in the Fresno State Marching Band. My daughter Heather, married and has 3 kids: Noah (a Freshman in HS), Ellyza (8th grade) and Ashlyn (7th grade). They are excellent athletes and students. My son Andrew has one son (Ender) who is in 2nd grade. He is a lot like me (poor kid!). College Played golf on one of the top teams in the nation at USIU.... also got a degree, but I don't remember how. Career After about 16 years, in banking (where I managed several bank branches, including the Carlsbad Branch, of Southwest Bank) and financial jobs, I started my own company, 30 years ago. I am still working and looking to sell my company, somewhere down the road. Jenny and I sold our home and moved to San Luis Obispo County, last year. We really like it there. Retirement? Someday!!
