William's Story

Hi, I'm Bill, this doesn't seem right telling a story about myself, but then how would you know me? I hope I don't bore any one. This is my journey and a little of what brought me back home. These days I try to live a quiet and peaceful life. After graduation I joined the Marines,I wanted to see the world... I did. I began my career as a Marine rifleman,a"grunt". I was a machine gunner and an expert with small weapons. Later I went for the adventure program, by that I mean Battalion Reconnaissance after more training promotions and parachute and scuba and lots of other skills, got into Force Reconnaissance Company, 2nd Marine Division, and many more combat units. I was deployed a lot, sailed on more ships than some sailors, the Mediterranean Sea a few times saw southern Europe , northern Africa. East Africa, several countries in Central America, all over the far east , through out the Pacific in and around the South China Sea, and into the Indian Ocean. I'm not mentioning all the countries. I was assigned to 2 embassies in Central America and another embassy in Africa. I participated in combat in Grenada, recovered fallen Marines, some whom I trained with... that broke my heart. Latter I found myself evacuating the US Embassy in Liberia. I and my men were assigned to security for the Secretary of State Mr. James Baker "somew...Expand for more
here on the other side of the world",and a few other security details. I was deployed to Southeast Asia during the Gulf War, action in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm and the liberation of Kuwait. In, 1995 by the grace of God, after the loss of many friends I retired from the best best gun club in the world, the best fraternity of men. I settled down in Houston, became civilized, raised my son and daughters, attended Houston Community College with the girls. I then went to work in the petrochemical industry, retired from that. Then, the adventure bug bit me, I went to work as a "government contractor" in Iraq and Afghanistan. Not quite done I went through 2 divorces, the girls stuck by me. Now I'm remarried have 11 grandchildren and 4 greatgrand children. My family and friends are important to me. I have a few battle scars, and bouts with PTSD. Of all the counselors hands down was my dear friend, Reverarend Mike Barron, preacher of 2nd Baptist Curch in Pasadena, Texas. He helped me more than he knows. My faith has been shattered, when I think God has a minute I talk to him, private chapel is in God's presence beneath the sky of my little prairie. In all it's bean a real journey a wild ride. Hell, I'd do it all again, given the opportunity. To all my classmates wherever you are I sincerely wish you all the very best. Bill
