Wilmar's Story

Life Well, let's just say my life hasn't been boring (note: it doesn't mean everything has been peachy, either, just not boring lol). The 3 things I am most proud of are (in no particular order): 1) Continually growing and developing myself so I can be a more enlightened human being instead of a hot-head. 2) Finally sticking with a relationship and checking my ego from time to time to make it work. 3) Being a good father, who spends a lot of time with his son. Once in a great while, I think back to my school years, and thought about 'what if I had done this or that?'. I enjoyed my HS years greatly, but, I think I shorted myself in some areas. But, things happen for a reason, and I am very happy. My guess is most people who knew me in school wouldn't really recognize me now (and not just because I cut-off the mullet after HS--yikes!). I have taken up weightlifting, I am much more patient and jovial than in school, and I cleaned-up most of my "less-than-good" habits. I am still passionate about sports, particularly the Packers. I am a huge movie-buff, and love to go to the theatre although that has been restricted some since my son was born. I don't watch hardly any TV, and am more interested in the internet. I still love to eat. And, I am still pretty active. Marri and I moved to Las Vegas in 1998, and still live here. We love it! The weather is great 8 months out of the year, and when we miss the snow, Mt. Charleston is only 45 minutes away from where we live, so we can see it, play in it, and then leave it. Of course, there are al...Expand for more
ways things to do here. The thing about Vegas that definitely is different from WI (besides the weather and The Strip) is the people. People are MUCH more materialistic here than in WI. I got caught up in it too until recently. I'm not saying it's bad necessarily, just different. (OK--here comes a generalization): In my opinion, people in WI are down to earth and trustworthy. In Vegas, well, the people mainly have different priorities. But, what the heck, it's still fun! lol The cool thing about Vegas is that it is a true "melting pot." I mean, maybe about 15% of the people I met here were actually raised here. Everyone else is from some other part of the Country or the World. So, it's very interesting from a cultural standpoint: lots of different ideas, languages, priorities, etc. It's actually fascinating if you enjoy learning different things about people different from you. Anyway, I love it here, and probably will never move. But, I do still have a soft spot for WI. I miss kringle, Spot, Kopps (in Milwaukee), the KYF, the bakeries, Lincoln Park, Summerfest, and the old Outlet Mall (well, maybe just a little on the Outlet Mall). I have fond memories of WI (just not the weather). Anyway, I truly believe life is what you make it, and I have made my life to be pretty good. I am grateful for all the relationships/acquaintences/experiences I had growing up, because they all played a role in the man I am today. My best wishes for you in your continual pursuit of love, good health, and happiness. Take care, Wil(mar) Schmidt
