Winona's Story
Life
John (Class of '68) & I married in July '69 after he finished his Air Force technical training. Our first home was in Orlando, FL where he was stationed at McCoy AFB. Less than two years later, he was transferred to U-Tapao Air Base, Thailand (I lived at home for that year). We were then stationed at Kincheloe AFB, Sault Ste. Marie, MI (BRRRR!) for six months. Our next home was in Austin, TX (Bergstrom AFB) where our son was born in 1972. We then moved to Phoenix, AZ (Luke AFB) where our daughter was born (1974). Two short years later we were back in Austin (Bergstrom). From there, we were transferred to Ramstein Air Base, Kaiserslautern, West Germany--3 great years seeing Europe was quite an experience! Our next stateside home was in Hampton, VA (Langley AFB). Last, John was transferred to Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, NV. Some might think this was a glamorous assignment, but since he was assigned to a "highly classified unit" he was actually gone most of the time. When his unit (4477th Test and Evaluation Squadron) was deactivated in '89, he retired with 20 years Air Force service.

g John's Air Force career, we've been settled in Burleson, TX (south of Fort Worth) for more than 21 years. John now works for Lockheed Martin and hopes to retire in a year or two.
I'm currently still enjoying the leisure (HA!--my "to-do" list just keeps growing) of retirement. We spend time with our Corvette and SSR, participating in car shows and just enjoying the open road with the top down. We were one of >300 Vettes parked on the flight deck of the USS Lexington in Corpus Christi. One special trip was to Spearfish, South Dakota. What a trip; we saw the spectacular Mount Rushmore and Devil's Tower in Utah. Our latest trip was to Bowling Green, KY (to the Corvette Museum and GM Assembly Plant) and Asheville, NC where 30 Corvettes from our club were displayed on the lawn of the Biltmore Mansion.
Our son Scott is now married to Jennifer Graef; the wedding was May 29, 2009 at Chapel Dulcinea in Austin. They are now expecting our first grandchild due in May 2011.
Our daughter Kelly keeps busy with her job and college classes. She's still single and will be quite a catch for some lucky guy some day. Kelly loves to cook.
