Winston's Story
Life
After graduating from Silver Lake in 1964, I moved to Florida where I worked on a windjammer for awhile and then got a job as a layout engineer. Searching for something a bit more "meaningful" I eventually joined VISTA where I worked as photojournalist in Texas and New Mexico during 1969-70.
In 1970 I moved to Los Angeles, CA and from there to San Francisco where I settled down and worked as a photojournalist for four years. In 1974 I made my way back East to teach a course in photojournalism to a group of advanced placement high school students at Bridgewater State College.
For the next several years I lived in Bridgewater while researching a book on the history of the rivers of southeastern Mass and then I moved to Mount Desert Island in Maine.

became deeply involved in bald eagle field research along the coast of Maine, having founded the Coastal Maine Bald Eagle Project in 1984. I also founded the first sea kayaking company in the eastern US in the late 1970s and conducted tours in the Bar Harbor area for 4 years before ill health forced me to close.
After getting my captain's license in the early 1990s I founded Sea Venture Custom Boat Tours here in Bar Harbor in 1995. Having at last stumbled upon what Joseph Campbell refered to as my "bliss" I have been conducting custom boat tours for the past 9 years in the Bar Harbor area and loving every minute of it.
Although I came close once in the 1970s, I didn't marry until I was 48 when I finally met the right woman. I have been happily married for the past seven years.
