Martin "Woody"'s Story

Update 2/2010: My one year anniversary (1/25/09) has come and gone since my brush with death. I'm in excellent health and doing fine. Gained a little weight during the holidays. My wife, Jule, hasn't been so lucky. She has a medical problem that may never be solved and she is in constant pain 24/7. My son in the Air Force is in Korea for the next year. My other son is living in my home and looking for work. Looking forward to a better 2010, some of 2009 I'd rther forget and then many 2009 events were absolutely wonderful. It will be a year in my life I will never forget. I'm hoping to be able to go on the reunion cruise, but it is too early to tell or commit. I wish everyone out there a great 2010. Update 6/2009: I've had very eventful six months this year. Went to Hawaii in january, the day I got back I had internal hemorrhaged, yeah really, had to call 9-1-1, could have damned near died. I have an eight inch scar up the middle of my stomach. I'm doing fine, missed 5 weeks of work. Two weeks ago I had another operation for a double hernia since my surgeon believes that one of my hernia's was the cause of the hemorrhage. I wanted to go to the reunion, found out later that I would have been the only 1974 alum to attend, but I had missed so much work already and I knew I was going to have the second operation ahead of time. Life is good and I'm doing just fine and so is my family. I've currently lived in Vancouver, WA for the last 17 years. I've been married to Jule for 27 years a...Expand for more
nd have two boys (26 & 24). This is my second marriage. My first marriage was to a Bartlett graduate that lasted 5 years (1975-1980) with one child (30). I'm currently working on very large motors for the logging and mining industry. I've spent most of my working career behind a desk, management and training. I must say that I've enjoyed my current work (6 years) more than all those years of climbing various ladders to success. I finally got an Associates degree for computers in 2003 with a 3.72 GPA. I did this to prove to myself that it can be done at my age and to encourage my boys to try and further their educations. Some of my interests are in hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, prospecting, yard work, movies, Vegas. I coached baseball and basketball for many years as my boys came up the ranks. By the time I stopped coaching I actually was getting really good. For any of you that may remember me which could be difficult because I went to Orion JH, Elmendorf AFB (9th), West HS, Anchorage (10th), Lathrop HS, Fairbanks (11th) and finally Bartlett HS (12th). I was mostly quiet and distant with a jock mentality. Briggs and Meyers: I S T J (look it up) I've lived in many states since graduating; Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, back to Alaska, California and finally Washington. I would like everyone to know that I'm a happy person, in good health, active, have a wonderful wife and two fine boys. I don't blame any of you that may read this for not having a clue who the heck I am.
