Yolanda's Story
Delano is my Home town no matter where I may be living I will always be from Delano.
I feel a great sense of PRIDE being from our small humble town. I love the People of Delano they are sincere and down to earth. It doesn't matter how long you've been gone they are always warm and happy to see you, and I am always happy to see them, family and friends alike.
I attended Fremont School from Kindergarten to 8th grade and then to DHS.
Most of my friends I have known almost all my life. I come from a large extended family, That is a great when you are growing up. You always have plenty of friends and cousins to get together with I feel very blessed to have been raised in such a good place. Delano is a place with a rich history.
When I was growing up we all knew each other and each others Families. Our Parents knew Each other and each generation knew the next. I have traveled extensively and I have loved many places. I have lived in Monterey, Ca., San Francisco Ca., and Pomona, Ca. and worked in many other states through my Union Organizing but I will always consider D. town my Home.
First and foremost I am a Union Organizer, starting off early in Delano in the 60's under the l...Expand for more
eadership of Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez my Mom Left her job in the fields to go on strike for basic improvements and also for Justice and Dignity for Farm workers.
I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Legacy of Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers.
I have been a Union Organizer for many years working with the UFW, UNITE-HERE, the National AFL-CIO, in the Western Region. Through my work with the AFL-CIO I had the opportunity to
work with many other Union's helping out with their Organizing drives.
Union Organizing is very rewarding, especially as you help develop leadership, and as you win improvements on the job and a higher standard of living for workers.
I currently live and work in the city of west Covina, I am a Senior Field Representative for Assembly member Dr. Ed Hernandez, O.D. District 57.
The cities in district 57 are Azusa, Baldwin Park, Covina, West Covina La Puente,Hacienda Heights, unincorporated
Basset, and a small are of Duarte. Working for the legislature is very challenging.
There are so many issues, policies and constituent groups to deal with. Representing the Assembly member is just as challenging and rewarding as Union Organizing!
