Yolanda's Story
LIFE
After high school I attended Mesa College for a year and a half before getting married. With children in elementary and middle school I returned to Mesa to earn an AA degree in business.Next step was earning a bachelor's in behavioral science which met the requirement for entering a credential program at UCSD to earn a pupil personnel services credential (PPS) to become a high school guidance counselor. I headed back to college 3 years later to earn a master's in education and a preliminary administrative credential. Decided to check all the boxes and earned a designated subjects credential to teach in the area of business and office careers. whew!
A career in education is not an easy job especially in these budget crisis times, but it has been very rewarding. Both as a teacher ...Expand for more
and a counselor I have experienced the joy of helping students navigate their educational paths to prepare for life after high school by helping them realize their full potential. Here comes the rewards. . .they come back to tell me and show me how I made a difference! . Spent 3 years as a counselor at Crawford High and 4 yrs as a teacher then returned to my roots for the past 2 years as head counselor at Montgomery Middle in L.V. Missed high school students though and jumped at the opportunity to take a counseling position to 9th and 10th graders at KEARNY in SCT for 2 years and Loved it!
Just accepted a Head Counselor position at Madison High and look forward to working with the counseling team, students, and staff in September 2013-14. Go Warhawks! ...but once a Komet, always a Komet!!
