Yvonne's Story
Life
After graduation, I married (too young). I had a son in 1954 and a daughter in 1957, then divorced in 1960. I went to work at Parkland Memorial Hospital in March 1960 where I stayed until 1990. During that time many historical things happened: In 1963, President Kennedy was assassinated and brought to Parkland (one of the worst days of my life); Lee Harvey Oswald was killed by Jack Ruby and brought to Parkland; then Jack Ruby developed a brain tumor, had surgery and when he died he was brought to Parkland.
I met my current husband after he joined the Faculty at University of Texas Southwestern Medical School, adjacent to Parkland. He joined my bowling team in 1963. (Be careful, you never know who you will meet in bowling alleys). We married in 1965, had a son and have now been married for 45 years. He taught Pharmacology at SMS for 38 years. I worked in Surgical Pathology at Parkland starting as a Medical Typist and when I retired in 1990 I was an Administrative Assistant, still in Surgical Pathology (a very interesting field of medicine).

Faculty member of SMS who had started his own company. In 1994, my Father-in-law moved in with us (after the death of his wife in 1993) and I retired from there to look after him. At the time he was 92 y/o. He immediately joined the Senior Center in Irving, TX where we lived and he played pool five days a week until his death in October of 2000, age 98.
My husband retired in 2000 and we decided to relocate to Sedona, AZ, after spending a vacation here. It is beautiful and the climate is great. We live in the Village of Oak Creek which is unincorporated, but has about 5,000+ residents. We have been traveling extensively. We have a timeshare in Colorado, plus we have taken over a dozen cruises. I know we will have to slow down some day, but while we're able, we plan to "keep dancing."
We have 3 grandchildren and our first great-grandchild was born April 3rd, 2008. We spent Thanksgiving with our Granddaughter and family in Bakersfield, CA in 2009. Our Great-grandson is a real sweetheart.
I think age is a state of mind and the years may pile up, but I'm never going to get "OLD."
That's my story and I'm sticking to it!
