G. A.'s Story

G. A. “Art” Barnaby, graduated from Howard, class of 65. Spent a year in JC then off to the Navy, 30 months with the Navy & 12 months with the Marines. Who knew the Marines were part of the Navy? Spent my entire military time in Southern California. Tough duty, hun? Married Nancy Martin, Moline, in 1967. We both enrolled at Fort Hays State in January 1971. I finished my B.S. in 1973, and Nancy finished her B.S in Nursing, 1974. I then attended graduate school at New Mexico State (M.S.) and Texas A&M (Ph.D.). I join the Kansas State University, Ag Economic faculty in 1979. I retired as a professor in 2019 and we moved from Manhattan to my parent’s Elk county house. We...Expand for more
have 5 granddaughters. Lost Nancy in an auto wreck in 2019; about 6 months after retirement. Chapter 2, I now have a new girlfriend, Pamela. She was a patrol officer with the Kansas City police department for about 10 years. She then moved to the Post Office for better pay. She has one son who works for the railroad. Her late husband was also a KC police officer. My granddaughters range in ages from 14 to 10. The three oldest granddaughters play basketball and one of those also plays softball. Pam & I spend most of our weekends traveling to ball games! Grandkids love having Pam at their ballgames. I never expected to lose Nancy, but otherwise life has been good.
