Abner's Story
School
Public School 97 - first crush, first fist fight. The awkward years.
Saint Emeric - lots of fun. Then LaSalle Academy - no crushes (all boy school). But fist fights - first year, last day of classes got beaned in the head, I threw a textbook. And we came out fighting. From what I'm told, it was a good fight. Me? I don't remember anything but getting butt ugly mad.
St. Francis College - girls, girls, girls. Don't get me wrong, I had a girlfriend for three years before I got here, but this was the first time I was surrounded by beautiful women. In fact, I married one of them, and we're still together after more than twenty-five years and have two wonderful teens (well, teens anyway).
College
St. Frances college, went in a young man with dreams.
My major was P.E with a minor in Psychology.
Did not last long, about two years. But I did walk away with a beautiful woman. (She graduated with honors)
12 years later we wound up in Sunny South Florida.
For years I wondered if I made a mistake. Could not get a job, all the jobs were low pay with no or little benefits.
So in 1992 I went back to School. Bauder College. I studied very hard (little bit older and two babies, I had no choice).
In 1994 I graduated with an associates degree in Electronics.
Worked for I.B.M and in 1996, started working for BellSouth.
I am now a 100% CWA union member and have been for the past ten years.

Workplace
I started working at the ripe old age of 13.
I was a gofer, hey Abner go for this and go for that.
That lasted two years.
At 15, I was a camp counselor. Loved it. This is where I met my first girlfriend (Rachel Munoz). Did that for about 3 summers and worked in an office, a messenger, the rest of the year after school. Even spent a summer working in Landscape Management at Rockefeller University in NYC.
I worked a year at Globe Shipping (after dropping out of St. Francis) at the World Trade Center : (
From there I spent 8 years at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom. I started off in the legal library and ended up as Senior Managing Law Clerk.
Moved to Florida. Was a Production manager at a pleating factory (skirts). Tire sales man. Pay phone Customer Service Rep, Lawn person (hey I needed to work, I did anything).
Once I finished at Bauder, things started to change. Worked for IBM. Then in 1996 tested for BellSouth. Still here.
It is a wonderful job. In 2004 South Florda got hit with 4 Hurricanes in 2005 we got hit with two. I have had two days off a month for close to a year and a half. You see I'm in Construction. I help build the lines that keep communication working. It's been a very hard time. To the credit of my co-wokers we are doing it. Our spirits are up, things are slowly getting back to normal. Bills are being paid, life goes on.
