Don's Story

Life After graduating from high school I attended art school but after about six months dropped out. I moved to Orlando for a couple of years with one of my class mates Bobby Stout. It seemed I had a talent for cutting hair (you know, that whole David Cassidy thing) so I moved back to Burlington and started school at Leon’s of Greensboro. I graduated in 1979 and went to work at a salon in Burlington. While attending Leon’s I met a beautiful Greek woman who I later married. We opened a salon called The Positive Image. It was a success but my marriage was not. It was also at this time that I lost my Mother. However I had become involved with another beautiful woman named Yvette. She was half Cajun and Half British. I guess I have exotic taste. She had two children from a prior marriage and then we also had a baby son who we named after my Mom Addie. His name is Addison Jarrod King. I opened another salon called Le Salon. It was also a success. Having learned a few lessons, my second marriage has gone much better. We have been together now for 18 years. I know a record for me. Eight years ago we decided to move to Wilmington North Carolina. I had the opportunity to continue my education and live in London England before we moved. I attende...Expand for more
d Sassoon’s, Toni and Guy’s, and Alan’s International and received my Master stylist certification both in hair cutting and color. I then became an educator for cutting and color with Goldwell out of Baltimore. I also started working at the film studio, Screen Gems in Wilmington. I have met many famous people like Frank Capri Jr., Shirley MacLaine and many others. I have also done some extra work and appeared on the TV show “One Tree Hill”. I needed business roots so I open another salon here in Wilmington called Salon Looks located at The Galleria Mall near Wrightsville Beach. I also still own a salon in Burlington but limit my time there to just a couple days a month. We live about 5 minutes from the beach and I love running the loop. My youngest son is sixteen and doing very well. He seems to have the art thing and wants to be an architect. My wife works for corporate America (need those benefits) and besides dodging hurricanes we love living here. There is one point of interest. I’m a certified Dive Master but since moving to the beach I have not been diving in over eight years. Please someone help me on that one. Otherwise life is good. It is also my wishes that to all my class mate that they to enjoy the same. Don Alan King
