Adrien's Story
Life
I was a resident in General Surgery at Wayne State Univ/Detroit Medical Center and finished in 2007. I did a one-year Critical Care Fellowship, based primarily out of the Children's Hospital, after having completed a year of research with their robotic surgery program. I have since spent a year as Colorectal Fellow at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, and a year as ECMO Fellow at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital. Now I am in Lansing, MI getting back to general surgery. I will be doing Surgical Critical Care again here with MSU at Sparrow Hospital, adult-based, from July '10 to June '11. I have been with a wonderful guy (Mick) for over a year now, whom you can see in the photos!
College
Cornell was exactly where I belonged... I loved my time there and I miss the area, don't get to visit nearly often enough. My biggest regret was having to give up band after sophomore year - marching and symphonic - to focus on fewer priorities. One of the best parts of my life started in college though, as a brother in Alpha Phi Omega, National Service...Expand for more
Fraternity, which I am still involved with. Some may remember I broke my back in early 1990, but healed well.. I had great fun in Ithaca, from gaming Friday nights to editing the Lunatic to gorge swimming, frat parties and road trips. Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me.. :)
Took time after Cornell to work in healthcare, lived in Washington state for 7 months and then a summer at home in Florida, then came back up north to the Capital District (Troy). Worked at Albany Medical Center, took grad classes at SUNY then went to Boston for a year for a Masters degree before finally getting into medical school at Albany Med.
While there, I remained active with my fraternity and local volunteer organizations, wrote for the school newspaper and edited the yearbook, learned swing and ballroom dancing and was involved with student organizations from AMSA to MSFC. I still like visiting the Albany/Troy area whenever I can, and wish I were staying in better touch with old friends and classmates...
