Al's Story
I worked for and earned a couple college degrees. ya, me. I had many jobs, over 43 so far, and only fired from a couple. I have worked for 2 states, 3 counties, the VA and and didn't like any of the bull ____ there. I traveled a lot, 19 countries and 31 states so far. Owned 14 different houses and about 12 boats. Married a few times and have 5 wonderful daughters that love me.
I am now married to a wonderful Chinese woman and live part of the year in Wuhu China. We just returned from a 20 day backpack trip to Laos and a 10 day tour of Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture is SW China. Planning trips to Nepal, Bhutan and India next year while looking at an English teaching job in Cambodia for this winter.
OK..so I spent nearly all of what I earned and felt good about it by planning to retire in a 3rd world country. I am there but now my daughters and grandkids want me to stay around Michigan. I have made 5 trips to China and I am in China now as I write th...Expand for more
is.
I have been blessed with health, happiness, great family and good friends.
PS: Mr Morris said I should be a barber because I wasn't very smart, was a farm kid and could talk to anyone. He was wrong on the first part and I wanted to leave the farm so bad I joined the army and volunteered for Vietman thinking that option offered more hope :-) I was smart just didn't act like it and I can still talk to anyone even if they don't speak English.
I have been traveling and left the country more than 42 times, raised daughters and changing jobs like you change underware.....44 jobs since 1969..maybe I should write a book. What a good time I have had.
UPDATE 2016: In Madrid Spain for a week on my return flight from Asia. My wife and I just spent a month in Cambodia, one in Thailand and another in China. I can live cheaper in Asia during winters than I can staying in Michigan and I am a compulsive traveler ( what an illness to have).
