Al's Story
Got my fifty-year invite by mail the other day.
Wow...it really has been fifty years since NSHS let me leave without a pass or note.
For me, it was a stopping point on my journey through this life, a means to an end.
A place I usually felt out of place in. I often wondered how I could have made it better. But I couldn't. In three years, I'd be gone. I tried to keep my head low, and my mouth shut. It worked for the most part.
But when it didn't, it sucked. I kept moving. That's what three years at NSHS taught me. Keep moving forward. Perseverance has its own reward.

t occasionally it's ghost would shine in my headlights. I put the pedal down and drove on. I'm glad I didn't hit a wall.
As I got older everything got easier. I moved on and moved along, sometimes in the pack, sometimes at the end, but occasionally in the lead. That was adulthood.
Until now.
Now I wonder. Because at fifty, you're a survivor. I want to meet my fellow survivors and compare stories. Maybe scars.
We've earned our scars, and maybe even a tattoo. I believe scars tell better stories.
Especially the ones on the inside.
I hope I make fifty, but I don't, I'll be thinking of y'all.
