Alan's Story
When I graduated from the old Behrman High, I went to Delgado Community College for about a year, studying air craft mechanics. I went into the Navy in 1969 and was stationed on an aircraft carrier in the Gulf of Tonkin in Viet Nam. When I finally got tired of being a sailor, I returned to New Orleans and began working as a Safety Supervisor at a commercial diving company. I got married to my high school sweetie and we had three girls. I was always told that I would regret having girls, but I'm here to say, I would never of had it any other way. I continued working in the Safety field. I've worked in construction, refineries, papermills, concrete plants, chemical plants, etc. Today, I'm in Missouri working as a Site Safety Manager for a company that does on-site maitenance for a facility that produces insecticides and herbac...Expand for more
ides. All those chemicals...I guess if you're not a bug or a weed you're OK! Well, as long as you follow the rules, you are. My wife and I got to see our three girls get married and have children. My second and third daughter both have two children. Now, my oldest daughter is going to have a baby!!! Wow, can it get any better? I plan to retire in a few years. Most likely five years, but I really enjoy what I do, so I guess that is half the battle. My wife doesn't work, except for around the house and now that its just the two of us, we spend a lot of time traveling around the country on weekends and going back to Alabama to see the kids and grandchildren. This fall, we will be traveling to England to see the new grandchild. My daughter's husband is in the Air Force and will be stationed there when she has the new addition.
