Alan Bingham:  

Life: After graduation from North I entered OSU for four terms, after which I served two years LDS missionary service in South Texas. I returned to OSU in 1972 and promptly met my future wife, Claudia, to whom I proposed on our second date. We were married in August 1973. In 1974 I graduated from OSU with a degree in Microbiology and entered graduate school at the Univerity of Oregon Medical School, receiving a Master's in Microbiology in 1979. My thesis subject was Giardia lamblia. During those same years we purchased a home in Ladd's Addition (inner SE Portland) where we live today, had three children (Marc, Jeff and Amy), and ran a submarine sandwich shop (among other part-time endeavors) to make ends meet. In 1979 I entered the U of O Medical School, but near the end of the second year decided I was tired of school and left. From 1980-84 I worked in the Multnomah County Pharmacy Stores, as a Microbiology Research Consultant, and as lead Research Assistant in the Pediatric Metabolics Lab at OHSU.
