Alan's Story
Life:
Alan Burdette lives with his family on a small farm in Bloomington, Indiana where they raise chickens and organic produce. His children (in 2007) are 10 and 7, and his wife, Deb, works at home keeping their life and the household together. Alan works at Indiana University as Director of the Archives of Traditional Music, one of the largest university-based ethnographic sound archives in the United States. ded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation to create systems and tools to digitally preserve ethnographic field video and make it available online. In recent years he has worked as the Executive Director of the Society for Ethnomusicology, an international academic society based at IU, and has taught courses at IU in American vernacular musics and in world musics. He continues his passion for photography and also tries to make time for singing and playing old-time or bluegrass banjo.
